AFAIK the PSU's rated output will drop as the temp inside the PSU rises. Try to remove the mods from your PSU fan and see if it helps.

A friend of mine always had stability issues. No matter what he did, the system would crash under load. He must have tried 4 different heat sinks3, different cases, different motherboards, different memory, moded his cases with insane fans (it didn't have to be quiet), and put very loud fans. Nothi...

Re: Abit ST6

CPU temps vary with ambient temps (of course!) and are about 5-6°C above the case temp at idle. Full load temps are about 3-4°C above idle temps. My case temps vary from high 20°C in the early morning to mid 30°C in the late afternon. CPU idle temps run from 35-40° during a typical day and load tem...

Actually, the "case" temps are read from the temp&voltage monitoring chip (most usually from WinBond). It's quite easy to find from the motherboard, and it's usually marked in the manual as well. Some people have said that newer motherboards could read temps from northbridge, but I haven't seen one ...

I currently have AS3 between Palomino 1800+ and Swiftech MCX-462. It's been there for ten months, and it hasn't gone "old". How exactly it could "wear out"?

Wearing wool pullovers or sweaters while installing RAM (or other ESD sensitive components) can lead to disaster. It's not good idea to pet your dog or cat during the process either. I've built over half a dozen computers from scratch, and added memory/HDs to dozens. I've never worn any wrist straps...

Thanks, I've been waiting for somebody to report whether the Raptor has temp sensor.

I used cpuidle on my athlon 1400MHz (non XP) even since I bought it... never had a problem on the cpu. bad PSUs could be a problem though. do your fans suddently spin a bit faster when the cpu goes out of idle? if it does its not good. Mine does. I don't worry about it. The PSU load changes dramati...

Seems that your 800JB was damaged in transit, as it lasted only six weeks. Seagate has had the V line out over six months, so they should finally phase out the IV line. Seagate makes 7200.7 line too. Maybe the IV line has come to it's end. Too bad, as some (or most) say that IV is more quiet than V....

Doubt it voids the warrenty because I can just pull the glue off and they'll never know. I thought of hotglueing too. If You put toothpic...

Re: So how come?

For a long time I thought the only way to get a quiet pc was to get a notebook. Of course it has it's drawbacks. After being here something else occurred to me, why doesn't anybody make motherboards that would accept Intel mobile line of processors? They use a lot less power so there's less heat to...

Thanks, seems that I have to do some experiments. I'll just have to wait and see whether the shop is willing to replace the fan under warranty.

I have the exact same card, and the fan is dying... Howls real bad...

How exactly did You attach the fan? I assume that You just screwed it to the HS, right? Making nasty holes that will void warranty on the card?

Cheers,

Jan
