I'd probably go with a Solo for the case, E4600 (or 4500) for the CPU and overclock it as and when you need to, Scythe Minja or whatever Thermalright EXXXtreme Ultra etc is top of the pile, a 3850 (plus S1) for graphics, a single Samsung F1 320GB drive (you could get 2, but I don't need that much s...

hmm, looks pretty good. For personal preferences I'd go for a E4500 or similar and clock it up to what ever level you need - the extra cache of the E6750 isn't going to make a huge difference and the higher multiplier of the E4xxx chips means you'll have a lower idle speed and power draw. Good call...

Sweet spot system
I've been poking around a few sites and forums. One one of them I give out advice on building out computers (I try to make them choose silent parts  ). After doing this for awhile, I decided to take everything I've learned so far and just price out a system, both an Intel one and an AMD one. C...

Are you located in the states? For a budget upgrade that will give you a big performance boost, I'd recommend the following: Athlon64 AM2 X2 4800+ 2.5Ghz ($99.99) GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 ($84.99) A-DATA 2GB (2x1GB) ($47.99) That entire upgrade will costs you about $232.97, which is less then the proce...

I think you described a parallel connection. From one 12v source the connection is made to two fans at once. The grounds from each fan are also common.....each ground wire going to the chassis. Hmm, I should go back to school. I studied electrical design for 3 years and never did anything with it a...

wrong....stop. A simple "Y" splitter supplies 12v to each fan.....this is not a series connection. To get each fan running in series at 6v.......you wire 12v to fan #!, ground wire to positive wire of fan #2. Then you wire the ground wire of fan #2 to the chassis ground (the black wire of the molex...

technically isn't in series, they just share the voltage supplied. Sorry for the noobish question, but how is this possible? :? I don't get how the Y-adapter would give 6v to each fan. Speaking of this, how do you deal with the rpm cable? (there will be two for one mobo header) -Thanks! I'm not ent...

I did a bit more research, and the AN52 appears to have two fan connectors, one for system and one for the cpu. This is a bit disconcerting since I'd have to get a fan controller (well, I already was kinda planning on one anyways). I found the GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 . Which looks to be the same as th...

Re: Need a new motherboard
Does anyone have a recommendation on a AM2 board? I need at least 4 sata 1 ide, and the usual for a current board. I don't really overclock much either. If you're not a serious overclocker, then almost any board will do just fine. I am personally quite satisfied with my Gigabyte GA-M52S-S3P http://...

How about trying to eliminate the PSU as the cause if you have a spare you could use for a while? I've already tried that route, I was using a BP500 for about 1 weeks and the bios would occasionally randomly hand on me, I then used an SP500 for about 2 days and still had random hangs (but this was ...

Have you tried a ram test? Could be the ram rather than the motherboard. Boots off a CD: http://www.memtest86.com/download.html I tried a ramtest. I had OCZ ram before, I did a 12 hour memtest and it came out clean, I bought some new ram and put it in and the issue persisted, I used to manufacturer...

Need a new motherboard
I currently have an Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless that I was giddy to get. But it's been causing issues since I got it. Right now I've solved everything but one, occasionally the system will begin to freeze up and I have to do a manual reboot. The post will appear but will freeze right before testi...

OCZ 1GB (2x512) DDR2 800 and some other stuff
I pulled this out of my system since it doesn't pair well with the ADATA ram I got. 1GB OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Gold . 5-5-5-10 I've used it for about a year and it works flawlessly, I recently ran a 12 hour memtest on it and it came out clean. I also have 4 packs of Hard Drive gromets I bought off newegg...

Silencing on a budget, my slightly modified case
Hey Guys, I've only been here for just a few weeks, but I've gained quite a bit of knowledge from spcr :) and this is what I have done so far. I've modified my case a little bit, and replaced all the noisy parts. The specs of the computer are such: Antec Neo HE-500 (I got this one when I sent in my ...

Have you considered the DIY approach? I had kinda figured I would come up with some sort of DIY solution for the hard drives. Purchasing enclosures can get pricey (already going to be spending around 100 this round) so I plan to either use some sort of elastic suspension or build enclosures to put ...

Purchasing some Silencing materials
I'm getting ready to do some intense silencing of my computer. I've already taken tin snips to it, covered up any vents not being used, and Now I'm going to start buying some silencing materials. I'm going to be getting some things from newegg (see below). And I was wondering if there's anything els...

Antec replaced my PSU with a different model :(
I sent in my SP-500 last week because of an incredibly irritating coil whine that increased when i played games. Just got a replacement, and it's a EA-500. Judging from the review on the EA-430, it's a nice upgrade, but it's not modular, like my SP-500 was. Has anyone else had experiences like this?...

Refetting 1U Servers to Tower cases
At my workplace, we're going to be refitting about 28 1U servers into Tower cases. From what it looks like, the board itself is the standard ATX form factor, and it has Dual-core Dual Xeons, 2.6Ghz. The motherboard itself is a X5DPA-TGM+ from SuperMicro. We're probably going to have to do some fun m...

The latest release of the binary driver increases stability quite a bit, and enables people to use AIGLX. Not to start an argument here, but not many people agree with you on that. Are you sure you are not mixing things up? As far as I know, Ati's drivers are still binary-only (and the quality is still nothing short of abysmal) and they've only released some basic specs about their newest chips. This enables the community to write the open source drivers, which at the moment ...

Antec includes an Earthwatts 430 PSU with the case. I'll read some reviews about the nVidia chipset. I completely forgot that the AMD/ATI chipset came with an ATI VGA. :D No need to worry about that. That is actually a pretty good gaming system. i'm not familiar with Intel boards, but from what I know, the P35 is one of the better ones out there. an 8600GT will definently be able to handle that game (possibly on medium settings), and that's plenty of ram and the E6650 is a great proc for it too.
