Re: Intel Haswell CPU - a Quantum Jump in CPU Performance?

If they have them planned, doesn't that kind of imply that they already know they'll be able to shrink the dies? Why not shrink them all the way down to 11nm or less NOW, and promptly blow all of their competition right out of the water? A child prodigy at say age 10 might state that they will do x...

How many Spybot! Search & Destroy definitions are there for Windows? Over 750,000 -- and there are 1 or 2 malwares for Mac? I have owned a Mac for a long time and I have never had any malware. I have also run Linux machines for many years, also with zero malware. Windows on the other hand has had m...

I don’t blame Christ for Christianity’s failings as he wasn’t around to guide the ship I probably should not get into this, but Jesus Christ was a Jew, not a Christian..... I didn’t notice anyone suggesting that Jesus was a Christian as that would be a strange label to attach to him. At the end of ...

Re: Steve Jobs is the Messiah and Apple is a Religion

So I think you are taking Hubbard's comments a little too simplistically (or what I termed as "out of context"). If you reread my posts you will see that for me it is all about intention and I have no idea what L. Ron Hoover’s (Frank Zappa joke) intention was so it’s not possible for me to know the...

Re: Steve Jobs is the Messiah and Apple is a Religion

I don't want to sound like I am endorsing Hubbard or Scientology, but I am pretty sure you are taking his statement out of context. What he meant was that if an organization is classified as a religion (as opposed to just self-help therapy of some sort) it is tax-exempt and you get lots of tax dedu...

When you hear some of the wacky ideas that come from Scientology just remember that L Ron was a science fiction author and all it all makes sense. I dislike the way they reportedly use private detectives and lawyers to intimidate people that oppose them which is not a good thing for an organisation ...

I don't know about the masses, but I give L Ron the crazy title over Jobs. Crazy is such a subjective term though. :) There’s a famous quote which may or not be true but is attributed to L. Ron in which he supposedly said and I paraphrase, “If you really want to make serious money then start your o...

In around 1991 I was invited to attend a focus group that a marketing company was organising around a new advertising campaign. I was invited purely because I had listed some computer hardware (non Apple) in a periodical that ran free ads (Loot) which is where they got my phone number. Before the en...

Re: Lets discuss illegal drugs - and legal ones too

While It's strictly off topic, I've always been amazed by the war on drugs that goes on in so many countries. Obviously I think they're futile, but what interests me is that so many governments rarely, if ever, choose to examine the root causes of why people do drugs in the first place. For a littl...

Re: 2011 SSD pricing (for drives >= Intel G2 X-25V 40GB perf

Just built myself a desktop system after not having one for six months. I wanted an SSD and eventually went for a C300 128GB as I got a good deal direct from Crucial (£145). 60/64GB felt too tight for space as I’m not intending to upgrade to an even faster SSD in the next few years. Didn’t want to p...

Re: Current rating of Asus P8P67 Deluxe CHA_FAN connectors

I’m hardly surprised by Asus’s poor customer service. I had an Asus Sandy Bridge board with the faulty chipset and trying to get them to give me details on how they would handle the RMA was like pulling teeth. They were good at spouting vagaries and pointing me to a web page that had a recursive lin...

The Dell Mini 1012 is fanless and the noise level is down to the choice of HDD installed; fairly easy to swap out as well.
It might be an old model now so not sure if the replacement is also fanless.
I have one and my one complaint is that the trackpad is dire which is a serious failing.

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO

That will likely refer to the fact that you can adjust the multiplier DOWNWARDS in the BIOS. That doesn't make sense since the manual states the multiplier depends on CPU used. Traditionally you can lower the multiplier in the BIOS hence my reference to adjusting it downwards. Just because you can’...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO

Well, as I mentioned, according to the manuals they DO offer it as an option. That will likely refer to the fact that you can adjust the multiplier DOWNWARDS in the BIOS. There is a lot of cut and past and ambiguity in manuals at times so better to rely on the hands on reports. This is all very con...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 2: Intel DH67BL & Asus P8H67-M EVO

I'm still wondering about the overclocking. On another forum I read that the "No Overclocking For H67" is only about the option to adjust the CPU multiplier by a few steps, which P67 offers for ALL Sandy Bridge CPU's. Adjusting it by many steps for K-type processor should be available on H67 as wel...

Re: Lucid's Virtu. Optimus but for the desktop as well.

This article suggests that it should be able to power down the GPU completely. Although an article at TechReport suggests that it doesn't and that the GPU will still be eating it's idle wattage. If it can't shut down the GPU, then there seems little use for this. It seems unlikely on the surface th...

Re: Sandy Bridge, Part 1: Intel GMA HD 3000 Graphics

I thought only the i3 chipsets were locked? Oh, I see, you mean OC'ing the graphics chipsets. The H67 supports over-clocking the graphics but the memory ratios limit it to a max of 1,333MHz DDR3. But I was raising the question about over-clocking the CPU which seems to have been completely removed ...

It really disappoints me that you can’t over-clock at all with the H67 boards. It seems idiotic although they are addressing that with another chipset that is a hybrid of the P67 & H67 but it won’t be released for months. Question: What is the max display resolution of that uATX H67 board graphics? ...

Re: Looking for a quiet 60mm fan for a Dell Zino

It turns out that it’s a 50mm fan and the connector is seemingly of the type that VGA card fans use so not so easy to replace it. I remember there was a quality control issue with the Zino HD build (when I was tracking it on AVS Forum in late 2009/early 2010). In many cases, the combined cooler just...

I have a Dell Zino 400 HD and the fan is too loud so would like to replace it.
If anyone has any other tips for silencing a Zino I’d love to hear them.
