Got a Nidec SP1614N from Dabs this past week. I have previously got them from Overclockers, and would use them again, apart from hearing that the owner has affiliations with a white supremacist organisation. I don't know how true that is, but it did influence my decision (and I think dabs were cheap...

Tell me more... here Although this may not be very helpful, I might add that the owner of overclockers.co.uk has affiliations with a white supremacist organisation - if that influences you...

Hey DrCR,
for my illustrations in your earlier thread I used SketchUp by @last software. It was a demo of V4. I liked it, but it was rather expensive for my minimal use of CAD. I found it easy to get to grips with once I'd worked out what was going on. You draw in 3D, and can get mm acurate!

I have 4 SP1614Ns (the PATA versions), and I have a server with five drives in it. The server only has a single SP1614N, coupled with a Seagate U6 and 3 older Samsung's. All activly cooled. Can I hear anything? Not usually, because it's muffled by things in the way. But getting close there's some wh...

I haven't had problems with Overclockers recently. My very firsat order took a week to arrive, which wasn't good. My second order I messed up my 3-digit security code - my Mastercard has got a guage right through them! I phoned them up and all was okay. Since then I['ve ordered a few times and had n...

I did something like this (but a bit different!) when I rebuilt my server last year. Using 5 drives in a full tower case (6 x CD bays, 2 ocupied by a CD-ROM and a DDS drive) I wanted them activly cooled and suspended. I came up with this: http://nottage.homeip.net/test/upload/lotus_hd_box1.jpg I bui...

CPU cooler than board?
I think its true. I have got an old KT133 based board (GigaByte 7ZXR rev-1) running (had seemed dead), and recently swapped in a Mobile Duron 1Ghz. Well, it defaults to 500MHz, and nothing wants to change that. :x "to worry" I think, "I'll run with this 1.4V cored CPU over the summer and see what ha...

Well Mats, as dukla correctly put, what's the point in having an idle CPU, mine all fold whever they're on. The change is load temps, not idle... silvervarg, the XP2500+ is locked, and so is now at stock speeds in my MATX system with a Gigabyte 7V400AMF board. I hope to mod it to run at 200F...

10°C cooler by swapping for a Mobile Barton
My desktop runs on an Asus A7V600 board, and had my Barton XP2500+ at 200FSB at the standard vcore of 1.65 (although I think the Asus probably gives it a bit more). Its cooled by a Zalman 7000A AlCu on full, because there's no exhaust in the old ATX case (from 1998). PSU is a 120mm Fortron 350W and ...

RIP my 5yr old Fujitsu
It looks to have died last night. Well, a reboot this morning would recognise it in the BIOS, but it couldn't load windows within 3 attempts. I have an older (smaller) Fujitsu that didn't die , but was retired, and a few newer ones have bitten the dust or seem to be hanging on. So I'm preparing to s...

Well, although that Biostar looks to be "teh winnar!", it's not available :( I've ordered the Gigabyte since I need this board quick - I blew up the previous Asus at the weekend, and its not worth it to try and fix it. Looking for undervoltable MATX Socket-A board
Now, I have some criteria which I don't expect can be met. This is to replace a Via KM400 based board that died this weekend, which wasn't undervoltable. I need a board that's: 1. Micro ATX 2. Socket-A 3. undervoltable 4. can do 400FSB 5. has mounting holes for a Zalman 7000A 6. reliable 7. nice to ...

I got into PCs both for typing up uni stuff, and really to make music. The past 6 months has seen me upgrade for Folding points... I was doing okay with my XP2400+ and SDRAM, but that Barton XP2500+ which is now at 2255MHz grabs me more points. It will depend on your budget, upgrade expectations and what you want to do with it. The AMD is supposedly cooler. I have no personal expereince with AMD64 or P4C's. Of course, an older CPU is likely to run cooler, such as a P4 1.6A, which will still do a lot of general computing as well as somethin...
