As long as you get a good application of Artic Silver I think you should be fine. The Antec Tri-Cool, while not as quiet as a Nexus, isn't terrible by any means. I used mine on my XP-120 b/c I have a 27% overclock (from 2.2 to 2.8 GHz) and I wanted the extra CFM, but undervolted to 5V it's not loud ...

The silencers work a little better with nVidia's cards (supposedly the newly-released silencer 6 is the best of them all). But what I'm doing is picking up the Zalman 700-Cu and making my own duct out the back couple of PCI slots (I have no other PCI cards installed). A little more DIY work but much...

Thanks for the post. I guess you're right, any ol' case will do. Well the fact is I need to buy a new one anyway, and I probably won't do any modding this time, so I'm just looking for a good case for a reasonable price. In the future, I would like to start modding. By the way, do the rubber gromme...

I just plopped my system into one of these about a week ago....unfortunately I do not have the middle set of holes for a normal 120-mm fan mount :( I purchased this two weeks ago from NewEgg...I wonder if they're getting old stock back in? At any rate, I absolutely love it, regardless of the front m...

Check the last few reviews on the main page, they are all about the recent SATA drives that have been released. m0002a gives good advice, though, the new WD drives are quite nice. I picked a WD3200JB up the other day and mounted on foam it is totally inaudible idle...seeks are audible up to about 1M...

Well, this thing works great! I got the black version for my SLK3000-b. My one nit with it is that the upper metal casing makes some heinous knocking noises if there's any vibration at all in the casing (like optical drives)....but it is removed easily enough. It's got a nice wide range of voltages ...

Devonavar , I think you bring up some good points. Ones that have possibly been touched on here, but certainly not at such length. This could be an interesting experiment. To throw in my experience on this subject.....I once had to make a study where we were testing if people could respond to any s...

Seriously though, people are getting more and more weary of LARGE computers (I know I am). There was a time when fullish towers were much more popular, now most people stop at mid towers (other than stacker, v2000 etc). That really didn't make sense. What did people need those huge cases for back t...

gee whiz, I'm gone to a wedding for two days and there's another two pages of posts.... yeha , I have done a good bit of compression codec comparing myself and although I haven't checked out EAC, in a blind test I can tell the difference between a 192kbps mp4 and CD audio 19 times out of 20 (we got ...

...# Single card requires min. 400W PSU with 12V rating of 26A # SLI configuration requires min. 500W PSU with 12V rating of 34A It's not 200W pull yet, but it is pretty high if those are anywhere close to reality (asuming nVidia learned from their previous XXX W PSU required blunder). I think they...

I personally would suggest a DVD-rom drive (not a burner) for better safety when reading copy-protected discs. Could you elaborate on this? I am not familar with that issue, I have just known a few people who have had problems getting copy protection on games to read with DVD-RW. I think it is limi...

Greetings and Welcome to SPCR!!! [/size] That list looks quite good, actually; eerily similar to the build I just made. A few suggestions: If you want to save yourself a few bucks, just suspend the HDD in one of the 5.25" drive bays, or even in the empty space below the bays. It works arguably bette...

yeha , the majority of the population has already had their hearing damaged too much by the time they turn 21. There's a lot of noise that people are exposed to that just wasn't there many years ago....the 20Hz-20kHz "range of hearing" maybe used to be that, but for most is now down to more like 40...

In pro audio, there are several respected companies building reference quality speakers (dynaudio, genelec) for studio use which are almost flat thruought the range. Mostly because pro audio gear is terrible--and not just because of the "oh, audiophile stuff just makes music 'pretty' in an inaccura...

I wonder how this can be when I can see through most CDRs. Ever seen a press-quality CD before they slap a label on it? Besides, the substrate is clear; I think the laser would have a hard time reading through an opaque layer (but I don't know much about lasers, either). I've never heard of this, d...
