I've considered the project before.....you'd of course need to tap into the 12v battery directly, bypassing the other circuitry in the UPS. Presumably the system would pickup the battery drain, and recharge normally. I was all set to try this on my new/fancy UPS from BestBuy (house brand with a big ...

autoboy......from what I've read on the subject, much/most of the corn used for ethanol production is what they call "field corn". It would normally be used for cattle feed, and such. It is never used for human consumption in this country anyway. It's grown on land unsuitable for growing corn you ca...

I totally agree that over-population is the planet's biggest problem. But I also am firmly convinced there is nothing we can do about it. If the whole world was run under a single dictator like China, he could reverse the population trends, by harsh methods......that nobody would find enjoyable. But...

It came with a 30w power supply.....uses something less than that, maybe slightly less than 20w. The VIA EPIA board is the "green" half of my dual-MB Lian Li. The write-up ...

I think many/most companies use the "green" label simply to sell things. My poor old aunt was talked into replacing all the older windows with new "energy-efficient" windows.....cost $13,000. When I found out and asked why, she said she'd be saving money on the utility bills. She died about 40 years...

xen.....I use a big auto battery between the solar panel and the VIA machine. The VIA draws 20-25W max. The 12V monitor draws about 20W also. My solar panel is small, experimental for me. I can't run the system more than a couple of hours a day in the summer, without the battery discharging. My spec...

I recently heard some new info about Al Gore's own energy usage at his home. During the last few years it was revealed Gore's own home used 12x the energy of an average US home. Well he tried to fix his somewhat tarnished image as being "green". He added solar panels, a wind generator, replaced ever...

Airshark..... you certainly correctly defined the bumper sticker from the OP. Too bad you had to rile up the local troll. Ant6n..... it's probably because the "other ways" you speak of, usually don't work, and just show your enemies how weak you are. I look at the terrorist problem from an American point of view.....sorry if that bothers non-Americans. Of course there's internal-generated terrorism right here, as everywhere. "we don't know who the terrorists are"....... Maybe not by name, but they certainly fit a profile. They can be picked out at an airport easily enough, or a police line-up, because we know who they aren't.....with pretty much certainty. Of course it's not PC to do so, just realistic. Yeah.....too much operator input necessary to operate safely/quietly. You'll forget sometimes to adjust the fan speeds, it'll become too much trouble, conditions might change when you're not right there, and you'll end up just running the fans faster/more noisy than necessary. IMHO....automatic fan ...

No fans at all? If so you'll need to be using a very low-power setup. And.....locating a std. size ATX PSU in that setup as shown, impedes the upward airflow quite a bit. blackworx......once more. AFAIK, loud sounds do not go from 0db to 100db without a time delay. This gives the ear some time to react (shut down) before getting hit with...
