DVD Idle is a useful little program which reads ahead on the DVD, and buffers the movie on hard drive. The drive makes a lot of noise for the first 5-10 minutes or so as the program scans the drive, then the drive falls silent as the movie is being played off the hard drive buffer. The process is tr...

Keep in mind that there are many different variations of sorbothane, each with its own density. So what you may find for sale somewhere could be a bit different than used by someone in this forum. The only sorbothane I've seen locally is contained in shock absorption liners/ insoles for running sho...

SORBOTHANE - what is it, where do you get it from?
Folks here seem to be a fan of this material for its vibration absorbing properties. Where do you get it, is it expensive, & what actually is it?

Re: Cheap but relatively quiet socket 370 cooler
My mom's emachine is really noisy and I would like to replace the cpu cooler on it, but because it's an emachine I rather not spend more money that the MB and the processor is worth. Does anyone have suggestion for a relatively inexpensive, but relatively quiet cooler. It doesn't have to be totally...

I'm happy with my 3000b. I thought I'd comment on some minor things that other people haven't mentioned yet. 1. I like the non-descript, low-key styling. You don't even have to attach the Antec logo/ badge on the front of the case, if you don't want to. The case doesn't attract attention to itself, ...

Re: Just suspended my HDD - WOW! [PICS]
Hi everyone, I have just suspended my first hardisk, a Seagate 'cuda V! I am very impressed with the results, idle noise disappeared completely (with the exception of a periodic whining noise that i baffled by), seek noise dramatically reduced. Best 69p I have ever spent! I might try this myself. :)

is it possible to now get acceptably quiet cooling with a Prescott (say 2.8 to 3.2 ghz) using the XP-120 I guess it depends on your definition of "acceptable" but I'd definitely say yes. Assuming one is in the position of having to get a pentium 4 for a certain application or situation, is it possible to now get acceptably quiet cooling with a Prescott (say 2.8 to 3.2 ghz) using the XP-120, or would it be advisable to scrounge around for an older Northwood core P4?

I've concluded that the Pioneer DVR-A08 is the quietest of the newest generation of drives, though some older drives may be quieter. The DVR-108 and NEC 3500 are also in the (quiet) running, though if you can slow a drive down with drivespeed or similar, almost any drive should run pretty quietly. ...

The CPU is cooled by a Thermalright XP-120 heatsink without fan. I'm running the whole system completely fan-less, it's a minitower with the top taken of, so that the heat can rise. CPU temp with Prime is about 66 degree C (although aopen utility reports 56 the bios reports 66 after a fast reboot)....
