Try McMaster-Carr. If you're in SoCal you can arrange to pick it up yourself and save on shipping.

Search for "fan mounts". Catalog page 1212, towards the bottom of the page. Part numbers 5801K6 and 5801K8. The dimensions are given as well.

This is getting seriously off-topic, I won't post any more after this. I got curious enough to google for it. I found something here . Summary: as of 2001, LEDs are not much more efficient compared to incandescents in terms of lumens per watts. They do talk about why they are better at some applicat...

Re: Silent Lighting

I have a window on my case. I've always wondered if the window (acrylic?) dampens fan / drive noise as well as steel (or aluminum). Or if there's any perceptible difference. One thing for sure though - you're not going to be able to foam that panel. I am interested in Cold Cathode lights, but am wa...

I don't know how much power the CCFL uses though, so a switch would probably be safer than a voltage pot. Out of curiosity I tested the 12" CCFL kit from SVC once. I tried it with one and two white tubes (the inverter has dual outputs), and measured the current draw with a digital multimeter. With ...

BTW, why the boxed processor? ;) Not sure how different prices are in Australia, but from NewEgg's web site, the OEM and boxed Barton 2500+ differs by $1 ($93 and $94 respectively). An extra $1 for 3 years warranty sounds like a good deal to me. I recall a couple of articles on other sites (sorry, ...

A few things to consider, in no particular order of importance: 1. Replace Lite-On with Plextor Plexwriter Premium, with its ability to burn 1000 MB onto normal CD-R media. Cost more than double, though. Or the new NEC ND-1300A multi-format DVD burner, which cost more than four times the Lite-On. 2....

Assuming we didn't already know I have a Williamette, how would I find out what the cache size is? Is there a utility that reports this info? H.Oda's WCPUID is a nice small application that can do that and more. You can also try SiSoft SANDRA but that's a much bigger application (that reports a lot...

Yes, that's right, it's a Williamette.

For a handy chart of all Intel and AMD CPUs, try this at Tom's Hardware

Although the Williamette may be harder to cool, the 1.3 GHz has the lowest heat dissipation, less than a 1.8 GHz Northwood.

Never used a diagnostic panel before. Is "FF" normal? Having to unplug the PSU definitely sounds like a power supply problem. I had to do that too when I had too little load on my power supply. I don't think you need to remove the battery to reset the CMOS if the motherboard has a jumper to reset CM...

Hi, Mark, You're right, it's unlikely the fan will be spinning if it is reversed. Without another power supply it's rather hard trying to guess what's wrong. I went back and re-read your original post. What do you mean by "FF Code Flash"? Does the same sequence of events happen each time you tried t...

Sounds like we have the same type of kids :-) My solution - just let monitor enter power saving mode instead of turning it off.

The Asus I mentioned has the same chipset, so it must be the same northbridge. Check out the photo here

Re: Northbridge Cooling

Is 4.7cfm good enough for a northbridge chip ? My nforce2 chipset has a noisy unbranded fan reported at 5400 rpm by MBM5...but I've no idea of the cfm rating. The Asus nforce2 MB has no north bridge fan, merely a massive heat sink, which would suggest that active cooling for the north bridge is not...

I was toying with the idea of building a large mirror with all the AOL / MSN / MSDN CDs I have lying around at work. Should help significantly in reducing heat in the room, especially if placed outside a window. In your case, insulating the attic should definitely help. I noticed a great difference ...

Re: Power supply - electrical short protection

A power supply that briefly turns on and immediately shuts off is detecting a short or other internal failure. It is shutting down to prevent itself and/or your hardware from being destroyed due to excessive current flow. Well, not always. It might be due to insufficient current draw on some of the...

Re: A silent SFF, a contradiction in terms?

Does anyone have any success (or failure) stories to share? Thanks in advance. :) Here's a failure story that I still hope to rectify. I got a Casetronic CheckerCube 1215 for a EPIA 800 not too long ago. It has two 5 1/4" bays and one external 3 1/2" bay, and another internal 3 1/2" bay. It also ha...

Re: Replacing hard drive with compact flash cards

Considering replacing hard drive by putting in 2 compact flash cards via a IDE to dual flash adapter, allowing card to be bootable and using them as master/ slave. Compact flash are much slower than hard disks. It's fine it you're using it to load the OS and some application, but not if you're using it as a hard disk replacement. Check http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/default.asp?sort=fwread#fwperf for speed comparison of some compact flash cards....

I believe all the 12V lines come from the same source anyway. It is highly unlikely that the power supply has separate circuits for "regular" 12V and the 12V in the ATX12V connectors. You can either open up the power supply to trace the lines (insert usual warnings about high voltage present in powe...
