Also looks like the slipstream slim is mounted to blow through the fins and away from the card. I don't know how effective this is over a more traditional fan placement with the fan blowing down into the card. Seems like intake for the fan would be heavily impeded. My naive Physics knowledge tells ...

I can do the clean install, always have in the past, but I was wondering why I should keep on doing it that way and not taking the easy route of simply upgrading with all my programs, files, etc. in place. The only reason I can think of for avoiding an upgrade-install is that it won't clean up the ...

The supplies at short-circuit.com all look like they put out way too many amps: even the 100W fanless brick says it puts out 10A. If I recall correctly, the Pico 150 is only rated for 8.5A input. That would start to fry stuff, wouldn't it? Restart. Now that I think about it, your problem is easily ...

I am planning to borrow a pair of crimping pliers from my department workshop. Ran into a couple of problems. The crimp tool from our workshop was quite bad; it wasn't meant for Molex connectors. So I am planning to buy a crimp tool. The only one available in the UK seems to be a FrozenCPU tool for...

All decent fans should list their maximum airflow levels and the maximum noise level, which are presumably reached when the fan runs at 12V. Scythe Mini Kaze fans seem to do a good job very quietly. People that replace their CPU fans with the Scythe's go gaga over them! They cost only about $10 a pi...

Sure, there are other fanless AC adapters out there that are capable of delivering 80W - 100W or more of power, but they involve modding and soldering, and I don't have the tools or experience to hack apart a Dell DA-2 or an Xbox360 brick. Actually, electrodacus's adapters will also need modding. T...

The highest current for a 2.5mm connector is 5A and this is for the best quality connectors some lower quality are specified at 2A. Re: PicoPSU 150 fine for this build? How 2 find 150W power a
I would be suspicious of the power plug on the PW-200. They don't label the maximum input current for that connector and I would be far from surprised to find out that the 8.5 Amp current limit is a fundamental product of that type of connector design. Good point. This spurred me into going and che...

It seems it gets paired with a 102W power adapter at most places. What should it be paired with? I don't want to destroy my components, so I'm hoping the experts here can give some guidance. In any case, if you don't need the super-mini size of the picopsu, the DC/DC board offered by electrodacus looks like a v. good alternative. short-circuit.com sells a 150W AC adapter that they pair with the 150W picoPSU. So they do! It is funny it took so long for this thread to get to this point, even though short-circuit.com was mentioned early on. Both the AC adapter and the picoPSU are using 2.5mm jacks. Since the stock cooler is weak, the stock fans are designed to run at several thousand rpm's, typically 5000+. That is part of the reason they are noisy. Putting a Nexus fan will make it quiet but at 1000-1500 rpm, it won't produce enough air flow to cool the CPU. You can check how it works by insta...

Re: Why not grounded towers?
I think the problem with your "fat" tower concept is that it is not aesthetically pleasing to the general public. In general, people don't like looking at computer cases. Trust me that I am quite sensitive to the aesthetic and visual issues, which are in fact what drove me to the current idea. I am...

i'm guessing that one of the reasons why you can't predict the cooling performance based only on low-wattage cpus is because of the insane amount of cooling surface area on the mugen 2... this cooler has over twice the fin area of the true and the megalehems. The idea is that you want the hottest components near the top of the case to aid with natural convection and prevent the heat of those hot components from passing along to the cooler running components. The air will come in at the bottom, blown in by 2x12cm fans or a perhaps a new large 20cm fan, p...

The increased footprint is probably the reason why we are not seeing this. The reduced height makes sense when the system is on a desk but 25x25 is a little too big to put on a desk IMO. The footprint is no bigger really. NSK 1380 has a footprint of 27x34, about 920cm^2. P180 has a footprint of 21x...

Why not grounded towers?
Somebody thought of turning an IBM desktop PC sideways, and the modern tower was born. Shuttle, or perhaps Mac G4, started the cube revolution, by putting the motherboard flat on the ground. Isn't it time to combine the two ideas? That is, build towers where an mATX motherboard sits flat on the floo...

Re: My Scythe Orochi short story (install + mini-review)
Hi. Theres a thread somewhere asking if the new Scythe Orochi would fit in the P180. The measures I have are 194mm for the height of Orochi and 212mm for the width for P180. That gives a clearance of 18mm for the case walls, motherboard, and processor, which is obviously not enough. I have tried to...
