I need to check my wiring but I noticed a problem with running a fan a 7V myself. I recently picked up some Panaflo 80mm Ls and 92mm Ms. I wanted to see how they did at 12, 7 and 5V compared with my Vantecs. I have an external SCSI drive so I thought I would use that for my power source. I didn't ha...

Hmm, I actually just finally picked up some Panaflos and was able to compare them with my Vantec Stealth. I did some tests and was very pleased with the panaflos. The Vantec had more whine especially at 12V. I don't remember hearing any "tub-tub..." on the panaflo. If it was there, it was quiet enou...

Reverse airflow on HS fan
I'm thinking of doing something similar to Rusty's Quiet In-Desk PC . I plan on having my motherboard horizontal like he has. I was just wondering what the pros and cons are to mounting a fan so that it blows the air away from the HS instead of onto it. My thought is that since you don't see this co...

I remember finding something once about turning your linux PC into a Tivo like setup. I can't find it now, but I did find this:

Or use Mozilla or Netscape. They have script options, one of them that doesn't allow unrequested windows to be opended. I never get any popups. Although I have had a few cases where a requested popup window wouldn't show up because of how the website was doing things. Plus you can block images from ...

Wood case - Pros/Cons
I'm planning on building a wooden case for my PC. Not an enclosure to stick my PC in, but an actual case made of wood. I found some links to a couple of these that someone made but I can't say I've found much discussion on it. So I was wondering if anyone could throw out any experiences they've had....

Ah ha, it's a TEAC model FD-235HF. I didn't notice the little label on the back until just now. So it sounds like there are a number of different brand of floppies that are quiet. I had just never noticed until this one. Thanks.

I had always thought that even though IDE is built on board most MBs, it still communicates on the PCI bus. Look at onboard audio. It's built on the MB but is still a PCI device. Just because something is built on board, doesn't mean it communicates any differently. But you do make a point about the...

Quiet Floppy Drive
When I was putting together my new PC, a friend of mine had a bag of old floppy drives laying around. I tried them all out to see which I liked the best and to make sure it worked. Well, I came across one of them that was really nice. It didn't have that big click when inserting or ejecting. The dis...

Well actually, I can remember once when the fan died on my AMD. It didn't last long before it crashed. So to do it with no fan, it would require a good sized HS. Which I wouldn't mind that either. It just seems hard to find anything that fits these anymore. I ended up having to buy one from Radio Sh...

Fans for Pentium/AMD K6
I have some old Pentium/AMD K6 PCs and the fans on those things are noisy! Does anyone know where I could find better fans for them? I heard someone mention a Pabst 40mm. Or if there were any funnels or anything for connecting a 60mm fan or something along those lines.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Seasonic Flex ATX PSUs
Seasonic SS-135NP Flex ATX 135W Power Supply This is the psu I've been thinking of using in a Mini-ITX system. Does anyone have any experience or info they can share about it? I can't seem to find much and the Seasonic website doesn't seem to have much except a pdf of some of the specs. Also, I see...

Epia-M9000 HS/Fan replacement
I don't actually have one of the new VIA M9000 boards, but I've been thinking about what I'll do when I get one. One thing I noticed from the review is that the fan is a bit noisy. And it seems like they put a pretty small HS on it as well. I suppose to keep it from being too tall. So I was thinking...

I've got a Vantec 80mm and 60mm. I can't compare them to Pabst or Panaflo, but they're quiet enough for me. But then again my power supply drowns out everything anyways. If I ever do anything about the ps then maybe I'll be able to notice them. My point is I'm pretty happy with the Vantecs. But I'm ...

Here is an excerpt. You'll find the full article here: http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/pfc.html Active PFC The preferable type of PFC is Active Power Factor Correction (Active PFC) since it provides more efficient power frequency. Because Active PFC uses a circuit to correct power factor, Active...

TK Power 320
TK Power 320 Watt ATX Power Supply I see that the fanless TK Power PSU is listed in the recommended section. I was wondering if anyone had anything to say about the one above? I see that they're out of stock now, but they were going for $15. I almost jumped on it but I wanted to see if I could find...
