without knowing what your server will be doing its very hard to say whats best.
Plan for a minimum of 2GB of ram. but beyond that we need to know what the server will be used for.

If not for the spcr lab clearance sale, I would still be running my 6800EN card from 2005. $500 for the card averaged over 3 years is a pretty good return IMO. Does anyone know of Asus sells a NON-overclocked GTX280 card? All the ones i see on their site are "superclocked" so they are VERY noisy. Iv...

well it seems xp x64 and the gpu client do not behave well together. Im consistantly getting about 14% complete on all WU and then it errors with "gromacs is unable to continue" or the "unstable machine" error. And then of course after so many of those errors the gpu client will "pause" for 24 hours...

Couple thoughts here... 1st - it would be interesting to see how the power saving on this asus board compares to the current generation Gigabyte board thats designed towards the same purpose. 2nd, im wondering if one of the reasons EPU doesnt seem to work so well is because Asus tested it like an ov...

point taken there - the large plugs will be very difficult to route through conventional holes. or will require the DIY person to make larger holes. If I were to use such a setup I would be looking for the shortest possible cables so I dont spend so much time trying to bundle up the extraneous wires...

I don't want to cut the fan grill as sometimes, I could cycle machine quite often if someone buys my machine. Without removing the fan grill you will still have one of the major sources of fan noise - air resistance. Same idea as a whistle.. air resistance sets up a resonant frequency and you hear ...

Well after getting 2 bad XFX cards the brand has left a bad taste in my mouth. the first was an ATI 9xxx card, and the included drivers would not find the card. the second was a 6600 card that showed dozens of hardware conflicts in windows, and yet again, the drivers would not work. Swapping to a xt...

im using the bare minimum for a card - an 8600. It was one that MikeC offered for sale on the spcr lab clearance. mine does 1% every 10-12min. ive been eyeing a GTX 280 or a 9800 card but the noise factor has me very wary of getting one. Great folding and also great short term upgrade for my system.

well I ran just the GPU2 client over the weekend and it was getting really small WUs -- 68 points each. Then it would run through a stage where it downloads a wu, fails to run and then goes to grab another one. some i got credit for. some I didnt. so I see 480points for a day and 8 WU. and the next ...

If the fan plug isnt already in use - verify with your motherboard manual what its actually there for. From previous posts, i can see you have a workstation/server class system and probably a motherboard to match. These boards usually have an 'overheat fan' plug on the motherboard that wont turn on ...

You need to check and see what size of fan is being used for the exhaust fan. is it 120x25mm? or 120x38mm ? or something else? Another thing you can do is to cut the fan grilles on the entrance and exhaust fans so you have more airflow and less restrictions. Its the restrictive fan grilles that caus...

well I got the ultra-kaze fan and it seems to work great. not knowing which one would work i got the slow and med speed ones. the med sped one (2k rpm) is in my case now. As for keeping laptops quiet -- my experience has been the fan only comes on when they heat up. If you are using yours on a table or other flat surface, just stick a CD case or slim book under the back of your laptop to raise it off the table. Just doing that provides enough air circulation to keep ...

re the manually labelled picture above - in case the reviewer didn't know - in speedfan you can change the labels if you click the 'configure' button and there you can rename generic labels such as Fan1,Fan2,Temp1 etc to something more appropriate. there is even a facility to download correct setup...

Quiet 38x120mm fan?
Seems the main exhaust fan on my case is dying after running non-stop for 3 years. So I need a new one. trouble is all of the fans reviewd here on spcr are 25x120mm fans. and this being a server case, it wants to use a 38x120mm fan. I want to use one too for the increased airflow I use. The case is ...

This smells of dirty power to me. I saw you tried running on a UPS for a while, thats a start. But if you have bad power in your house (or a spike a while back) that has messed up your power supply, then nothing short of replacing all the components in that path are going to help. In your case: surg...

why an onboard video with dual dvi-output? With 2 monitors I would think you want more video horsepower as there is much more screen real estate to have to render. Then depending on how long you will wait until upgrading your monitor, you can get an inexpensive dedicated graphics card now. Older gen...
