These HDD power figures are how much the whole unit uses - not all of this figure is turned to heat. The heat output figure may still be less than 6.8W.

Since you've made a dent in the mobo you should be aware that some of these boards could have something like six or seven layers - hopefully you haven't broken any of the tracks running between layers.

According to the Zalman specsheet the ZM80C-HP needs to have a fan for the 9800 and higher, but it is a very quiet fan (and you can undervolt and use any fan that you want really). It just needs good airflow so you might be able to get away with just really good case airflow, you'd have to test but...
