Help me choose one of these fans for quiet/cool system
I posted this on another thread but didn't get much help. I need to choose fans for my intake/exhasut on LianLiPC65, also for my SLK-800A on Barton2500+ (Oced to 3200+). I am into performance and quiet, not silent freak, and I am on student budget. Here are some of my options: Panaflo 80mm: $10-14 (...

hi alexb, Im currently using two nexus 80mm for exhaust and two "new process" china made panaflos for intake. The panaflos are quite noticeably louder than the nexus fans, but they do move more air. When controlled to equal noise levels they move the same amount of air (as far as I can tell with cr...

Hi alexb, To install 120mm fans, you need to drill holes in your case in your exsisting fan position. But because your case is expensive and quite soft (Your case is PC65USB right) Personally i recommand you zalman's fan blacket http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/code_list.asp?code=016 I'm sorry ...

1. A Rev. 3 Silencer would comfortably cool a 9600XT on 'low' setting. I think the ATI-2 (Rev.4) fits the 9600 but apparently they're louder than rev3 so save your money and get a rev3. Have you looked at the Sapphire Ultimate 9600XT? I think they're pretty cheap now compared to other 9600xt. It ma...

Ok, so does Panaflo has the best CFM among the recommended fans? My problem with the list is that most of the fans are thought to have much less CFM than claimed and I cannot easily compare them! Also, I dont care about my fan noise at burn times and when I play games, etc... BUT I want close to sil...

I would personally suggest getting the fanless 9600xt from sapphire. As stated before without temps its hard to say what the best fan would be. However I would venture to say a nexus, noisekiller, or even the current fan, or another, you have setup-up on a voltage regulator, IE zalman fan mate, wou...

All drives make that noise, it's the way they check and communicate with BIOS that they exist on ur system. Now, some are louder than others, but you simply cannot eliminate that. If you have a CD/DVD in there, it's much louder BTW. Having said that the slot pioneer (I have that one too) boot-up noi...

Help me finish off my quiet project!
Well, thanks MAINLY to SPCR I started last year to quiet down my system, one part at a time (student budget). Here's what I have done so far: Case: - Lian Li 65U (not greatest for silence, but LOOKS great and works for me) Case fans: - Intake: Lian-li own fans - Exhaust: Panaflo L1A + LianLi fan on ...

so, is VGA silencer better than ATI silencer? I beleive the ATI silencer is easier to install... right? Which one would be cheaper? Zalman or silencer? I don't know about installation issues, but the VGA silencer is definitely quieter than ATI silencer, judging from what MikeC has said. If you feel...

Just an update. I just bought an NEC 3500A. The drive is quiet AT TIMES... but not all the times. When playing a DVD it's quite nice... but while readin CDs or writing, it's a bit noisy... although much better than my Teac CDRW. Yet to hear the Pioneer drive to compare it to... but neither have a fa...

Quieting Radeon 9700 PRO
What's the best way of quieting while keeping the same performance or OC capability of stock fan/hs?
Is it ATI Silencer Arctic Cooling, VGA Silencer, or Zalman?
Thnx

Well, I guess it would be very hard to determine the exact wattages of these CPUs since it depends on many factors. The fact remains though -> The Winchester Processors are currently THE BEST BET for building hi-end quiet/silent systems BY FAR. With performance close to the top of the line P4 the co...

Cool... for some reason I didn't get notification of replies to this thread I started... didn't realize it went so far! When I started this thread, some laughed at my findings and the fact that these CPUs are great candidates for quiet operations... I guess truth prevails at the end! Great follow up...

Any system can be made less noisy up to a point (and even stock Zens aren't that quiet!), but as far as I understand it, the key noise-reducing innovation the Zen has that other shuttles don't is the external powerbrick. One alternative would be to get an AMD machine and silence it yourself, or mak...

Yeah, I like the look on power consumption, although the site you linked has some very strange readings. I can't help but wonder if their total wattage values aren't in fact VA. I have a VERY hard time believing that a processor can draw 27 watts and the total system it's in draws 233W+ One thing s...

Ideal Hi-end CPU to cool down - Winchester Athlons
I just read this review at Tomshardware, they have done a power consumption test of all the latest CPUs, both at idle and load... the new 90nm Athlon Winchester 3000+ to 3500+ is BY FAR the coolest and least power hungry processor. I beleive they would be great candidates for silent cooling... check...

c't magazine measured all the models I've discussed. They usually do a pretty decent although they are not probably up to Mike's quality (which is VERY high). The measurements seem to be inline with most of the user comments I've read. Of the two you listed DVR-108 and ND3500A, I'd pick 3500A. Howe...

"...QuietDrive features a honeycomb design in the unit's top outer casing that reduces vibration from the drive mechanism. Together with noise dampening firmware and the lack of an integral fan, ambient noise from the DVR-A08XL is significantly reduced..." This feature is not part of DVR-108 model....
