Re: Medium size case with 2x 5.25" bays
It is hard to tell how it would be for air flow - the front corners if they are grills - look pretty constrictive. Good air flow is key for a quiet and cool system. Here's a case I just found: the Nanoxia CoolForce 2: https://www.nanoxiausa.com/products/nanoxia-cool-force-2-atx-mid-tower-case?varian...

Because there are gaps between the heat pipes, it needs more paste than a unit with a flat plate.

There are similar cases, but most do not have any front drive bays, or have one optical bay. I would recommend Fractal Design - they have several. What size motherboard, and what video are you planning on using?

The dimmers in my house are silent, and I have only had a noisy CFL bulb; which seemed to be just that unit.

I prefer Velcro straps, because they are reusable, and look better than twist ties. They do cost the most of all three, though.

Re: Silencing light dimmers
This is usually an interaction between the dimmer and the bulb(s) you are using. To see if it is the dimmer all on it's own, try using an incandescent bulb. If it still buzzes, then you need new dimmers. LED and CFL bulbs have driver circuits, and even if they are rated as dimmable, they vary in how...

Re: Quietest Case. Ever.
How well a case works depends on what components you put in it - your choice of GPU in particular, and CPU, and hard drive, etc. will change which case will work to make a quiet system. The quiet est system comes down to how much cooling air flow is needed - and how you use fans and the case to get ...

Re: Please help me configuring my quiet PC
Anytime a case requires cool air intake at the top of the case - which is the opposite of what naturally would happen - there will be a problem keeping it cool. Can a fan be attached to exhaust out the top? Are you planning on using a blower video card? I think the Fractal Design Define Nano S would...

I recently upgraded to a 1070 SLi system, and the best 140mm fans I have found are Phanteks PH-F140XP_BK 140mm PWM. And what Steve is talking about is exactly right. I had 1 exhaust an one intake on the upper part of my Phanteks Enthoo Pro M case, (and one 120mm intake on the lower hard drive / PSU ...

My son found one motherboard that has both the "old" and the new heatsink mounting holes on it, so you can use available heatsinks. I can't find it right now, but I will post the model, soon.

Re: Ryzen is OUT!
Apparently, they changed the heatsink mounting holes a bit, and Scythe will be slow to have the new hardware here in the US. Ryzen seems to have lower IPC than Intel, so for most uses, the Intel chips will be faster. The big upside is that Intel is supposed to be lowering the prices on their CPU's i...

So, $41 (shipped) for this PSU: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151086 It is (probably) significantly more efficient than the current unit, and it is new, so the worry of the current unit failing even after getting a new fan - seems to be worthwhile to me. Sometimes you can limit coil whine by changing one component - like the PSU or the video card. Another way is to put some hot glue on the offending coil(s).

I would have the intake at the bottom and have the top and lower rear as the exhaust. Let the PSU do its own thing, or possibly separate it from the case in its own compartment.

Re: small micro ATX case - airflow schemes (advise what's be
Many of those schemes are counter to what the "natural" flow would be - i.e. warmer air rises, so if you can work with this (rather than try and fight it), then you will be better off. Air should come in the bottom and exist higher up. That means you needs to consider the air flow through the PSU as...

What is make the most noise in you system now? The case is more important on how it affects air flow - the sturdiness of our case is pretty good.

Re: Help me choosing a silent case please!
It comes down to fans and fan controls, and the graphics card for noise, most of the time.
I have the same case and the only thing that would make it better is a closed front and larger intakes on the sides of the front, for indirect sound path. Like the R5 / Define S, but this is not a big deal.
