If I started F@H today, how much should I expect to pay every month on my electric bill?
Right now I'm paying about $100 a month. I leave the computer on 24/7 but it goes to standby when I'm not using it.
I know that it really depends on many factors, but I'm looking for a ballpark figure.

Cutting the p183 back fan grill: worth the effort?
Is it a good idea to cut the semi-restrictive fan grill on the back of the p183 and replace it with a 120mm wire grill? In theory this would help with airflow...

Re: What is your first step when silencing 7200RPM HDDs?
I remember that one of the experts here used to buy this rubbery material and cut it in strips. Then he placed the hard drive on two of those strips. Very elegant method. I used a raptor HD for about 6 years using this method and it worked wonderfully. I wonder if people still do that. I still have ...

Re: PSU Recommendation for decent Sandybridge PC
Given the degree of control in the Asus BIOS for PWM fans, you might want to consider the Scythe SY1225SL12LM-P as a potential alternative to the Nexus. It costs around $11 - see the SPCR review of the Mugen 2 for its acoustic performance http://www.silentpcreview.com/article961-page5.html - virtua...

Re: PSU Recommendation for decent Sandybridge PC
You don't mention a CPU cooler - the stock cooler is not likely to be quiet enough. The Scythe Mugen 2 with its PWM fan is worth considering, as it would work well with the Asus BIOS fan controls. As to PSU, the Seasonic X-400 fanless would be a fairly obvious choce. Oh yeah..I forgot to mention th...

I'm looking for a quiet Bluray burner
I noticed that Newegg has a Lite-on bluray burner for $112. This drive has: "ABS system reduces vibration and noise ensuring swift operation during data transfer." I was about to buy a LG Bluray Burner for $80, but I wanted to see if any of you have any experience with the Lite-on drive with ABS sys...

Fanless video card vs. Quiet video card
I'm not sure what would be better when it comes to building a quiet pc: -A fanless video card: no noise, but the heat stays in the case, making other fans run louder. -A video card with a fan, which would push the hot air out of the case: this is louder because of the fan, but the hot air leaves the...

Re: What's the best current CPU heatsink if money is no prob
OK, I found the Thermalright Ultra 120 at Amazon . It says that it comes with the bracket for socket 1156 (which should be good for the 1155 I'll be using). I also have some 12cm Nexus fans that I could use with it. The Thermalrigh HR-02 also looks very good, but I wonder if it will fit on an Antec ...

What's the best current CPU heatsink if money is no problem?
I'm looking for a high quality cpu heatsink for a Sandybridge processor. I know many people recommend the Coolermaster Hyper 212 because it's cheap, but what if money was no problem. Which heatsink would be better? I looked at the recommended heatsinks articles, but some of the heatsinks that rank t...

Good quality case for performance computer.
I'm planning to build a fast Sandybridge system soon. I want it to be very quiet. I'm not a gamer, so I won't be running any fancy graphics cards. I want a case that can be considered very silent. I like simplicity and elegance, not flashy lights or clear windows. What are my options? BTW, I can't b...

Need some advice about choosing a motherboard
I desperately need a new computer. I've decided that I'm going to get a good motherboard and a fast 45nm core i7 processor to build a pc. My question is: in a few months, the price of 32nm processors will go down. Therefore, I would like to get a 45nm processor now and exchange it for a 32nm process...

A better solution is to use a cheap universal power adapter. These have a switch that lets you adjust the voltage between 3v and 12v. Thus, you can control airflow vs noise. It's also really easy to connect up the power, because the tip had a couple holes you just put wires into. So If I use one of...

Homemade usb fan to cool game consoles...
I'm thinking of making a usb fan to cool down the cabinet where I keep an XBOX 360, PS3, and cable box. The cabinet gets super hot and there is no ventilation. One time the XBOX actually overheated and the game crashed. So I think I can make a usb fan by taking a regular 120mm fan (or a smaller one)...
