Thanks, the WD3200BEKT is FAST. Both of these 2.5" are faster than my 3.5" Seagate SATA 3, very impressive, I'm gonna try post benchmarks soon. I just want to get rid of the clicking/parking noises. Age-old question: *which* Seagate?? ST3320820AS and ST3320620AS Fair comparison? They're all 320gb S...

Noisy half-baked "green" hard drives?
I have 2 new drives, they're very fast but they both make clicking/beeping sounds. Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS 320GB 7200rpm SATA 3.0GB/s Western Digital Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200rpm SATA 3.0GB/s The WD randomly clicks every few seconds, it's a loud scissors-like sound. Its normal ...

Sharing speakers between 2 PCs
It looks like the only way to share the speakers is to use a system like Logitech Z-5500 or LS11 that have an auxiliary input jack which allows you to connect other audio devices. Is that correct? i.e. speaker/amplifier is always on and will play sound from either or both PCs because it has a sound ...

Damn nice. Good job with stuff that's not bleeding edge. I blew out an asus mb once attaching multiple fans to one connector. I guess it's ok up to a limit. I've been thinking about having the cpu fan connector control the rear fan on a gigabyte mb but haven't tried since it seems that the constant...

I am in the process of putting together a TJ08 build that is highly influenced by your great build. Quick couple of questions. I really like how you used the gutted out fans. Why did you put them in the order that you did? That is, why did you put the gutted fan next to the ninja and not the noctua...

In win2k/xp you can make a dir private through security settings & file permissions. On the fly encryption is an added step (activated separately). It's implementation is arcane, it can be defeated, and in most cases (as you mentioned) you risk locking yourself out of your data. Also Linux ignores W...

No. They both make custom archives and require either the Windows disc or a recovery disc to boot from and then restore the images from. So not true images from that perspective. Mine are both working bootable copies, if one disk fails I'd simply abandon it and boot the other, nothing to restore or...

Reviewers on Newegg are reporting more "vibration" on 7200 rpm drives compared to 5400 rpm, which is not necessarily measured in dB. The aluminum body Mac laptop seems more vulnerable according to users upgrading from 5400. They report that they can "feel the vibrations through the keyboard". There ...

You don't need to do a byte-by-byte clone to have a bootable copy of your Windows partition. I posted an outline of my backup method in general gallery , if you're curious (Posted: Wed Dec 31, 2008 4:23 pm). I haven't tested it with Vista though, I used that OS for a month before deleting it. I rem...

Lovely case. . . about your high temps: The plastic duct is going to be a pain when you have to clean out the dust, it is probably blocking some heat from going into the PSU, but the hot air is still in the case. I'd remove the duct and instead connect both the CPU & rear exhaust fans to the CPU fan...

I thought the backlight lamps are replaceable because it's the first thing to go, and the color temp changes as they age. I guess if ViewSonic sells no parts, they are disposable, though they're designed for ease of service and there's oodles of ViewSonic parts on ebay. I tried replacing the CCFL i...

Excellent review, thank you. Asus lists AM3 ready mobos here: http://event.asus.com/mb/AM3%5FCPU%5FSupport/ It's kind of misleading though, seems that true AM3 mobos will have an M4 prefix. Also Asus manuals for these boards don't list any compatible DDR3 memory modules. AMD's advantage is their ver...

Noise level -- 5400 rpm vs. 7200 rpm
There is a noise comparison test for 2.5" drives here:
http://techreport.com/articles.x/9378/14
Difference is about 3 decibels between 5,400 rpm and 7,200 rpm. Is that audible in a very quiet desktop system? Can anyone actually hear the difference?
