Re: hp dm1z w/amd fusion is a screamer!

i'm hoping StApostol has something for me :) just activating the quiet profile without hp thermal assistant is a big win for me. i could finally uninstall hp support assistant(big piece of poop) which it was part of, and activating it this way seems permanent. before, the profile would automatically...

Re: hp dm1z w/amd fusion is a screamer!

unfortunately battery life is just too hard to measure, with such a low powered system though every watt counts and i don't doubt that there will me an appreciable increase in battery life. the hdd noise is disappointing, very close to a 7200rpm 3.5" hdd.. and not a current gen one but an old ball b...

Re: hp dm1z w/amd fusion is a screamer!

using advanced power settings in w7 i managed to do some more stress testing- i can't believe i had to be reminded of that feature, thanks StApostol. my results: p0, 0x48, 1.100v, 1600mhz, 65C p1, 0x5E, 0.962v, 1280mhz, 58C p2, 0x7C, 0.775v, 800mhz, 54C 30min orthos stable at this point replacing th...

Re: hp dm1z w/amd fusion is a screamer!

did some more... now i'm really tired. max undervolt @1.6ghz that i could get was 0x4A which was 1.087v (5min orthos stable), any lower would result in an immediate lock. temps maxed out at an impressive 61C. for kicks i played some hd video, according to amd system monitor this stressed the gpu abo...

Re: hp dm1z w/amd fusion is a screamer!

i've figured most of it out now, i can activate the quiet profile and undervolt :) undervolting only at 1.6ghz so far and i've reached 0x40 which is 1.15v, orthos stable for 5+ minutes(it's late), it seems that each step up shaves off 0.015v. temp difference is 6C, 67C v 73C, stock v is 1.3, interes...

thank you StApostol and thierryg! i downloaded the program and had a bit of a try, looks like it'll be pretty easy even for a software illiterate like me, the detailed instructions helped greatly. i'll try if for real tonight when i get home, much easier to hear the fan and ill have my desktop in fr...

very informative post StApostol, i'm hoping for future speedfan support. from my last try bios settings made no difference, i may try again next time i have it home. i also want to put my ssd in there which will help. one interesting thing is that exhausted air is only ever slightly warm, even when ...

Re: hp dm1z w/amd fusion is a screamer!

thermal assistant aka coolsense is active and on 'quietest mode'. from what i can tell fan speed is linked to temps, so limiting the cpu speed will work to an extent, but at a cost to the performance. like i said speedfan is not yet compatible, i even went into the 'secret bios' and enabled thermal ...

hp dm1z undervolting and (limited) fan control

got mine yesterday delivered to work and it's pretty nice, then i took it home and the fan smacked me in the face. even on the quietest mode it's loud. the closest thing that most people have probably heard, and that i can compare it to is an 80mm fan @2000rpm behind a grill... for the time being i ...

Re: Asus E35M1-M Pro: AMD Fusion Motherboard

that is very strange indeed.

a quick look at the asus website shows that the itx version, the e35m1-i, has 1920x1200 max on the dvi and 1920x1080 max for the hdmi. i've been looking at the asrock boards myself, which lists the dvi and hdmi at 1920x1200 max...

presumably you will only exceed 350w during gaming so maybe a bit of fan noise at load would be ok?

Re: micro ATX advantage?

i go for microatx because i like the size and cost. as for power management, i think it's more about marketing nowadays. i find that lots of matx boards are more efficient than their atx cousins- less features and simpler power design. you don't really need 20 phases unless you're overclocking or so...

Re: Advice on Case + PSU + HSF. Looking at NSK-1380.

i've got both the nsk1380 and 3400, which is the nsk3480 with the su380 psu instead of the ea. they're both nice cases, but the 1380 requires much more modding for the same level of quiet as the 3480. the single 120mm fan for the psu is a real pain, it pretty much needs to cool everything in the cas...

Re: 60w enough for undervolted sempron 140, 785g and ssd?

it lives! seems fine so far, been stressing(orthos) for a bit with no problems. only real concern is the 12v line which is drooping to 11.46v at the lowest and stabilising at 11.58v, it's within spec... just. it idles at 11.78v. brick efficiency seems very good, at load it only gets warm. updates: d...

it has 512mb ram right in the motherboard so i'm sure it isn't the ram, at least not the removable stick.

connecting the power doesn't help.

some more discoveries/things i forgot to write in the first post:
battery charges.
numlock and caps leds don't work.

lenovo s10 netbook dead? help me fix it or put it to rest.

a press of the power button and the power led turns on, as does the wifi led, but the lcd is blank and the hdd led doesn't flash. pressing the wifi on/off button turns the wifi led off, it won't turn back on afterwards. removing power makes the lcd flash white like turning off a crt. hdd doesn't spi...

Re: AMD Fusion E350 Mini-ITX motherboards

even better! after reading many pico-psu reviews, i can tell you that psu combination is more efficient because the 12v line is straight from the power brick, converting 19v to 12v probably led to some inefficiency in the other combo (though from reviews passing the 12v line through the pico results...

nice numbers! a match for the msi board :)

good for me because that's the board i'm looking to get, price and the lack of aux12v power has sold me on it. i like the solid caps version, but that has usb3 which will probably drive up the cost.

a few things that come to mind:
sodimms
switching off things like usb, wifi, audio(?), touchpad(?), keyboard(?)
less i/o ports
less pci lanes?
binned cpus/apus
mobile version of the hudson chipset?
mobile audio?
no mouse

when your power draw is so low all the little things add up... probably.
