How quiet are those Yate-Loons? I just recently ordered some to install. I could've gotten the Nexus, but i felt that I needed the airflow and the Yate-Loons were quiet enough. They are both running at 5V, so they're very quiet, but doesn't that put it in the same speed range of the Nexus? Regardle...

I decided on the NSK2400 because I didn't think I'd end up using the knob or the VFD. Considering that the doors on my TV stand stay closed 99% of the time, I don't regret the decision at all. Although I would have probably preferred that the NSK2400 had a simplified version of the brushed aluminum ...

Very nice. I like the cable management. IDE doesn't look so bad there! lol I'm building the exact same, with an HDCP ready card, but will try with stock cooling. Undervolting and running the fan on low should keep it silent. This case seems more quiet than a Microfly and if I was able to run a simi...

Thanks for checking for me! I ordered the ASUS M2NPV-VM because I need the component out. I'm sure my clearance will be a little different than yours, but at least it sounds like there is enough clearance overall that I can work with it! Just curious, did you consider the ASUS board when you ordere...

Re: AsRock AliveNF6G-DVI 0.8V really ?
Hi, I'd like to by new AsRock AliveNF6G-DVI AM2 board. I have googled a little bit and found out that this board can go as low as 1.025 V for CPU Vcore - http://www.pro-clockers.com/reviews.php?id=182&page=4 It is in oposite what i have found on this forum - 0.8 V. Maybe it depends on a used CPU - ...

That is what I'm hoping for. I was really wanting the 3500+ that is rated at 35W (ADD3500CNBOX), but they were nowhere to be found. There were two model numbers for the 62W AM2 3500+ (ADA3500CWBOX and ADA3500CNBOX). Not sure what the difference is. Both are 62W AM2 processors. The CW had a newer bu...

I had to build the HTPC on the cheap but wanted room to expand so I'm starting out with a 3500+ (single core) AM2. If I run out of CPU in the future, I'll upgrade to an x2 later on. I finally settled on my CPU cooling situation, and have some updated pictures with a real camera. Let me know what you guys think of my build. The specs are as follows: Antec NSK2400 case 2x Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mm intake fans at 5V Abit NF-M2 nView motherboard AMD Athlon 64 3800+ CPU at 0.75-1.10V...

My A64 3800+ (62W TDP) reached a max of 62c with this setup. I currently run it undervolted to 1.10V, so it only reaches 35c now. It fits fine fanless in ...

I'm not sure if the following is correct, but it's the first thing that occured to me... Wood is a thermal insulator. Aluminium is a thermal conductor. When the ambient temperature is 20*C, your body is ~17*C over ambient. By touching the aluminium, you will be transferring some of your body heat i...

Re: x2 4600+ 65w and abit nf-m2 - temps..
Hi, Ive just built a system with this cpu and motherboard in an Antec Solo case. The cpu is cooled by a Scythe Ninja and I use the default 120mm exhaust-fan. The PSU is a BeQuiet Straightpower 600W. After running the "Blend - stress CPU and RAM" in Orthos Beta for 15min speedfan reads the following...

Physics question: why does metal feel colder than ambient?
This is a bit of a general question, as I am not terribly familiar with thermodynamics. Let's say we have an ambient temperature of 20c in a room. We have two 1kg masses of aluminum and wood. The wood block probably feels about ambient temperature. But the aluminum block feels colder than ambient. A...

Your TDP value is not correct, AMD gives TDP of AM2 A64 3800 as 62W: http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=ADA3800IAA4CN Wow, thanks for finding that, jaganath. I have gone ahead and recalculated my c/W figures with that value: 2.40GHz @ 1.10V: 62W TDP * (1.10V / 1.40V) ^ 2 = 38....

Responses inline. I suspect that you're using the wrong ambient temps. You need to use the in-case temperature, not the in-the-room ambient temp. There's no good on-mobo sensor to measure that though. You'll need to stick a thermometer in there, near where the HSF is drawing air into itself, and see...

I would stay away from raid 1. The real world performance increases are minimal and the data risk is very high. yeh, because temperature sensors are f.o.s.... Has anyone else gone and tried to calculate observed c/W figures for their quiet/silent cooling solutions? Here are my figures: 2.40GHz @ 1.10V: 85.3W TDP * (1.10V / 1.40V) ^ 2 = 52.7W actual (35c load - 18c ambient) / 52.7W actual = 0.323c/W 2.40GHz @ 1.40V: (59c load - 18c ambient) / 85.3W actual ...
