Whenever someone gets one of these could you please answer these questions: 1. Do the new quick-connect fittings work well? - ie don't leak when the Reserator is in use and only leak a few drops when disconnecting. 2. Does it look like the quick-connectors can be retrofitted to the original Reserato...

If you look at the specs for SSDs the sustained read and write speeds aren't really all that impressive compared to conventional drives. It's the "less than 20 µsec Access Time" number that absolutely crush conventional drives. As I mentioned a few posts above, the 320 MB/s number you cite for SSD t...

It's that true the price of current flash drives are outrageous. But one can only hope that Samsung's entry into this area is the first step in a market shift that eventually leads to reasonably affordable flash-based hard drives. LCDs used to have huge price premiums over equivalently sized CRTs, b...

I looked at the news article from Tom's and the product page at M-Systems. It looks like Tom's made a typo. He says M-Systems drives can transfer 320GB/s. But the product page for the Utra320 version of the M-Systems drive claims a burst rate of 320 MB/s. The sustained rates are 40 MB/s read and wri...

"...Samsung did not comment on the cost of a SSD drive, but considering current Flash pricing we would expect the 8 GByte drive to start be positioned in $500-600 price bracket and the 16 GByte unit to ring in at about $1200. " Last I remember hearing, the BitMicro and M-Systems drives were around ...

Speculation for the most part. Samsung is known mostly for their consumer products. BitMicro and M-Systems have always catered to deep-pocketed groups and ignored the consumer market. I don't think it is a totally unreasonable scenario that Samsung could come into the market and offer a similar prod...

Sorry... I can't believe people here aren't more excited/chatty about this. If this is affordable by the average user (unlike BitMicro and E-systems) then this would bring truly silent storage to the masses... not just to DoD, intel agencies and companies with bottomless pockets. I also hope Bitmicr...

Maybe, to give people an outlet for their frustration while they’re waiting for Antec to actually make these available, someone could start a poll: - The first sighting on the Antec site - The first sighting on a web retailer (in stock) - The first sighting at a retail store (in stock) - The first d...

...What I need now is a case for it - a 7200.8 sitting on top of the case is not a quiet thing! And a bit of protection wouldn't hurt either. jon If you have a Dremel you can mod your case to put SATA ports (internal type for now) and Molex power connectors in the top (or side or front). This SATA ...

From what I understand eSATA is electrically equivalent to internal SATA, the thing that changes is the “robustness” of the cables and more importantly the connectors. The internal SATA connectors were not designed for a large number of removals and insertions like USB and Firewire connectors. eSATA...

Are you sure about this? In their value kit 3, they sell the enclosure with PCI-slot header. One side of the header has internal SATA connectors for your motherboard. What exactly is proprietary? Here’s an external enclosure for SATA (or PATA) dives that has Firewire and USB connections: http://www.wiebetech.com/products/traydock.php It’s nice but pretty expensive. How is it at 1x for movie playback? My current drive, a LiteOn (*spit* *hawk*) clicks and whirs even then, which is somewhat offputting... Re: NEC 3500A vs NEC 3520A
I've seen the 3500A recommended as a quiet DVD writer... I just bought on of these and it is very far from being quiet. It is much louder than the single-layer Sony DRU-510 that I was using before. If it hadn't been so cheap, and the fact I don't use it all that much, I would send it back. I think ...

Has anyone tried to under-volt the DDC? Everyone says the Reserator pump is quiet (mine too) but also pretty weak.
