I like the comment about not hunting performance, yet bulding a system with a 8800GTS and a Quad code CPU, that's hell slow ;) LOL Anyways, joking aside, I quite agree with TMB328, the 8800GTS with 768meg of ram is old school now. A good quiet graphics card is the MSI Zilent 8800GT The cooler I woul...

Did you buy a case? Or did you reuse what you had? How much do you want to spend? I'm pretty sure you can make your current case more thermally efficient. It's all about airflow, you need good venting at the front to allow for the cool air to get drawn in and then you need clear access for the air e...

I didn't know you could get them in 500GB versions. I have been trying to source all the components in one place to save on shipping costs. Trouble is I can't get the case from the same place as all the rest of the components. But, the good thing is, the place where I can get the case, also has the ...

Even though you want a black card, I really don't think the 8800GS is a good choice, A 9600GT or even a ATI 3850/3870 all 512Mb versions would be better. The ATI cards will be dropping in price in europe soon due to the introduction of the 9600's from Nvidia. Apparently the price drops are already f...

Thanks for the advice, I was planning on some sort of suspension for the harddrive, so hopefully vibration wont be an issue. Also the WD green power drives are only available in 750gb and 1tb options, a little too much capacity (if you can ever have too much!) and also it bumps the price up by £40 ...

nutball, Thanks for the comments on the CPU, I have changed down to an BE-2350. This is a £30 ($60) reduction, which is nice :D I've been looking around and really like the look of the Silverstone GD02 case, so I might show my brother that and see what he likes. So slight amendment: CASE..........S...

Is this O.K for a proper HTPC??????
Hi all, I posted a while back for suggestions and help for a HTPC/ Gaming rig I am going to build for myself, well, at the weekend I was telling my Brother about my plans and he wants me to build one for him, now he is no gamer, so it will be a pure HTPC, he will use it for watching movies either Di...

Why pick a low profile gfx card? Doesn't the LC16 accept full height cards? It certainly looks like it will accept a full height card. It seems strange to me that you are fitting a powerhouse of a CPU and are limiting the graphics potential. Is it because the card has a HDMi port? Gainward do a 9600...

Jack, You'll be fine with all that lot, just remember, not too much thermal paste, a tiny blob in the middle and spread it thinly. Take your time, and don't force anything. I always find it's much, much easier to fit the CPU, heatsink and fan to the motherboard out of the case (I would have thought ...

What sort of gaming are you looking to be doing? There is a quiet 8800GT (notice I didn't mention silent ;) ). The MSI zilent, this has a Zalman cooler and quite fan on, so there is another option for you. HERE is a link to the CPU3D review of the zilent, the fan runs at a max 24dba, so that will on...

You don't need a HDMI capapble motherboard, the 3850 will output HDMI via a DVI-HDMI convertor. (AFAIK, someone else might shoot this down) You could then get the ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP with built in Wifi, this will save the cost of the wifi card and also save you a PCI slot. The Ninja Mini can run a 92...

Off the top of my head i would say.... either change the OC 8800GT for the MSI Zilent . The speed difference wouldn't be that much, perhaps 5fps or so. If you need the overclocked card then try removing the stock HSF assembly on the card and replace it with the Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 VGA Cooler ...

Possible sale of an old coolermaster ATC-310. (UK)
[WAFFLE] I have to make a tiny disclaimer. I know very little about silent PC's. I know about making loud computers quieter, but silent, nope, sorry. This is going to be a first for me, my good lady has been nagging me for ages to get rid of my beloved old rig. She is a right beast (my PC not my lad...

The memory you have chosen is Laptop memory (SODIMM), 2gig of PC6400 ram is £35ish. The CPU you have chosen is as rare as a rare thing in the U.K. All the new 45nm chips are and a lot of the online retailers are pricing them over the RRP because of this. The E6750 is £119(ish) The gfx card you hav...

The Ultra 120 extreme is one of the best cooling units that is currently available. The thing is, will it be better than a watercooling rig? You need to check out this review from Tomshardware, they compare loads of HSF units, including watercooling: part 1 http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/CPU-Coolers-...

can you fit two passively cooled 3850/3870's on a mobo? I don't see why not. A single silent(ish) 3850 is just about powerful enough to play the latest games, but at low resolutions and low quality settings, you run that in crossfire with another one and you'll be able to run at higher quality sett...
