Quiet despite heat production

I started out with a relatively high heat producing system and aimed to get it quiet (not silent) and allow it to run at its maximum potential. I apologise in advance for the copious use and mention of silenx fans (this forum has a bad history with the supplier). Summary: 430W PSU P4 3.06HT Overclok...

Cutoff

I think we're at the cutoff point now where even the average consumer is disappointed by how much noise their pc makes. Thanks to the intel doorstops known as Prescotts that most machines seem to come with, and the new obsession with tiny boxes to fit them in, the general public is sitting up and no...

Perhaps just a Zanman fanmate2? CPU fans aren't speed controled by the A64 Mobo (ie Cool n Quite) that I'd be messing up, are they? The fanmate is ideal for such an application. Many BIOSes now have some way to throttle the fan speed when the temperature is low, but you can enable/disable this. Som...

The SilenX fans are not better than the Nexus fans, although they aren't that far off. The Silenx published noise figures are complete marketing bullshit and have no basis in any reality. The fans are comparable to the Globe fans, but at several times the price. I've developed a dislike for Silenx ...

Includes 4 80mm SilenX 15db case fans SilenX 400W iXtrema Pro power supply (http://www.pccasegear.com/prod1727.htm) I'm also surprised these aren't mentioned on the recommended list. That's why they're not recommended on this site. There is a bad history with the silenX supplier pretending to be a ...

Some Australian distributors ship to the UK. pccasegear.com is a place I like to get stuff from, but they don't have the PSU you're after.

The SilenX fans might well have a small niche if they create less noise per CFM. I'm surprised to hear that you've found them to be better than Nexus. The guy who runs the place might not be very honest, but he could still have good fans. Well that brings me back to the original problem. Before I c...

Most BIOSes will show you the hardware temperatures these days in the BIOS. They also often have a setting of "ignore" for temperature or fan speed for each variable. If you set it to ignore it will not error on power-on-self-test, and (at least in linux) the operating system can still read the valu...

pccasegear.com is an Australian distributor of quite a few good quieting cases and hardware at reasonable cost.

Welcome. I'd give you the big welcome to SPCR thing but being only one day older on this forum than you it'd be presumptious... that and I have no idea how to do it :P The only thing I can comment on is that if your 80mm Nexus is vibrating in your hand and noticably noisier than your 92mm then you'r...

Adda info

Ok I've investigated the adda fan site. The (rather crappy) web site addausa.com has a huge list of fans of different shapes, sizes and voltages which makes for interesting reading. Most interesting is that it includes SPLs for each of the fans. There are some fans close in description to the evilX ...

I am in Australia. pccasegear.com offer some nice quiet stuff, but selection is limited. I wasn't aware that Adda made these fans. The evil fans indeed do not give as much airflow as some other quiet fans (tried Panaflo and Nexus) but basically I haven't found anything as quiet. Undervolting other f...

Thermalright XP90 with custom fan.

I'd use a thermalright XP90 with a quiet 92mm fan. I think the XP90 is an excellent choice for the combination of performance, the ability to mount your choice of 80 or 92mm fan, size compatibility, weight compatibility (it actually complies!) and cost. The obsession with all copper is finally provi...

Alternate Adda/Ahanix/SilenX supplier?

I've got a problem. I love the silenx fans (I believe Ahanix is the manufacturer if I'm not mistaken), yet your forum has made me not want to buy them from the silenx supplier. It seems the other supplier mentioned in your forums (can't recall the name) has gone out of business. Is there anyone else...

What a lively forum! Thanks for your thoughtful responses. If I can summarise what you all seem to be getting to: For temperature and noise, it makes no difference (at least noone could show me evidence of it). For dust, you can't control where the air comes from into the case, but, it's irrelevant ...

Case air flow

Why not do a simple experiment and check the temperature at load and idle with the side of the case off? That will tell you if you have enough case flow.

Negative case pressure?

Just joined this excellent forum. It's exactly what a pc noise hating nut like me could want :D I've read on a few topics people mention the concept of not allowing your pc case to get negative pressure by having too many (or only) fans blowing out of the case. Does anyone have experience on how rea...
