I haven't heard anyone report any issues relating to a failed/failing fan due to speedfan or power management. The only issue with speedfan that I've come across is that it is blocked when a game using GameGuard is run. GameGuard nullifies your sensor readings and thus fan control is negated. This c...

This is a little off the track of what you're looking for, but do you have any wireless gaming devices like gamepads? I find that they can make great remote controls. I have a Saitek P3000 and it comes with profiling software that allows you to bind keys and axes. You can even bind mouse movements a...

It doesn't bother me since it's so widely used and accepted to refer to the USA. I don't feel like the Americans :P are hogging the word "America". It's pretty trivial considering there is no extra power or rights by claiming a word. This reminds me of another curiosity I have. I am a "Chinese Canad...

First of all, it's customary for us spcr'ers to greet new members with a gratuitous WELCOME TO SPCR! It's normal for the fans to rev to full speed on startup, but not once every 5 seconds. You may have conflicting fan control settings. Look for an option to disable fan control in the bios and use so...

bsods are generally a result of a low level error such as hardware issues. Have you tried going back to the stock bios? It may be a good idea to stick with those unless you're having specific problems that a bios update will fix. The second thing I'd do is to strip your system down to the bare minim...

Thanks for everyone's input. I've done many stress tests before and they all work as they should. I did another orthos test again anyways and see that both cores are used 100%. My cpu temp under load is 50C so I don't think that's an issue. I don't see what could possibly be causing this problem oth...

I'm aware that most apps are multithreaded, but do they make use of a multicore system? My task manager shows 50% cpu usage while encoding to xvid. Am I doing something wrong? multicore video compression software
I've been using VirtualDub for a while now and I like its straight-forward ease of use. I am wondering if there are any other programs out there that you guys know about that make use of multicore systems. I want to be able to compress video in XVID, adjust audio volume, and sync audio to the video ...

Perhaps you could install your OS on one of those spare drives. If you have more than one then you can even RAID them if you're worried about the age of the drives. It probably won't give you much of a performance boost, but might as well run down the old drives first and reduce the wear and tear on...

I have tried 2 antennas and they both produce the same result. These two antennas are both meant for wireless cards. I'm thinking it's a hardware issue with the NIC since it is pretty old and hasn't been treated as well as it should. (It spent a couple years in the back of my desk drawer with no box...

I have tried plugging in the antenna before and after the computer boot up and i get the same issue. The rebooting happens only when the antenna is plugged in. NIC antenna causing reboots
I'm am baffled by this. My wireless network card works fine and dandy until I plug in any antenna. It hard reboots my computer and keeps doing it over and over again. As soon as I unplug it, it's fine. So far I'm leaning towards a defective card. Anyone have any thoughts?

Has anyone had experience with these drives? I see one for sale that I'm interested in but am not sure about the reliability and acoustic performance. It sounds like either a power supply failure or a motherboard failure. My last failed psu gave the same signs as you are describing. Powering on sometimes doesn't work. It's a good idea to keep a spare psu lying around for testing purposes. If replacing the psu makes no difference then it's probably...

I've heard of laptops overheating but usually in cases where the laptop is old and has been gunked up with dust. Regular cleaning should do the trick. Other than that, I don't believe you need active cooling. Just stick two little feet in the back corners to raise the laptop. That should be enough t...
