I would suggest cutting out more on the edges than in the middle

Cut them out !!!!!!!! and if you feel sorry after you've done it, take the fan, make it blow towards you to feel the airflow. Then put the grill in front of if and you'll feel the difference immediatly !!!!!!! You'll really be surprised at the difference and you won't be sorry anymore !!! good luck !!

no point IMO.... And I'm also a big fan of the noctua fans so go for them. You'll never hear them (undervolted of course) !!!!!!! Unless you overclock something, you can just go with the parts right out of the box and you'll be just fine. Maybe include some thermal compound somewhere in your budget ...

You could do that but you'd need to leave one of the 5.25 bays open to get some air to the CPU heatsink (not a problem if looks are not a big deal otherwise...)
