I installed W7B into a virtual machine - just fired it up, it used 16.9GB to install.
wow, given that W7B is supposed to be optimized for netbooks, I'm a little suprised at how large the install is. still, it's good news that I can use the same ISO for different installs, thanks.

Acoustically, glass is a highly reflective surface. This is the opposite of what you want for a quiet case, which should preferably be absorbing or dampening (two different sound reduction mechanisms).

Windows 7 question (activation)

Hi everyone, I'm currently downloading the Windows 7 Beta and I want to install it on several different machines. I realise I will need a different product key for each machine, however can I use the same burned DVD ISO file each time (just as you would with an XP or Vista install disc)? also does a...

Hi, I hope that S ED (surface-conduction electron-emitter display) TV's (developed by Canon and Toshiba, together) will come to market, at some point -- sooner rather than later. They are better than any of the current displays: They look like a CRT in terms of brightness, speed and viewing angle. ...

in general, a single, slow moving fan will make a machine consume less wattage than no fan at all would consume. that's something to think about. Eh? Indeed. I have no idea what that means. Why would adding a fan make the system use less power? mosfets lose efficiency as the junction temp increases...

The basic Dell Studio Hybrid ticks a lot of your boxes, though not all. alternatively you could get a 780G mini-ITX motherboard + am2 5400 45W + mini-itx case which should come in under your budget.

wow, that would be worth holding onto for the rarity value alone. do you know of any other psu's which have a load-based fan controller?

What about the CM Eclipse? It seems to have the larger fins and smaller fans you recommended in the SpinQ review. The mounting system is not push-pins. What you're saying is true about nuclear power plants for instance. while pre-cooling the intake air to the units has the gee-whiz wow geek factor (and should also mean you need less airflow, as the delta between the air and the equipment temp is greater, so heat transfer is improved) like other people have said, on a purely practical, pragmatic view, it probably do...

it's between the Scythe Ultra Kaze(1000rpm version), or the NMB-MAT(Panaflo) 1700rpm L1BX version.
i would vote Ultra Kaze. from the same company that gave us Slipstream and S-Flex, I expect very good things, like you say bearing noise is unavoidable with L1BX as it is ball-bearing.

my "ad hoc" list of good 140mms would go like this:

Yate Loon D14SL-12/D14SM-12
Scythe Kaze Maru 140mm

Evercool also do a good one, stock rpm is around 600rpm.
