Re: MIKE CHIN ARE YOU LISTENING ????

I can answer this question. The aluminum mounting holes won't fit the holes of the drive, so to make it fit, I skipped out one of the aluminum bricks, and one of the thermalpads. Then it will fit. I now have mine enclosed like WD Velociraptor -> 2.5" Scythe -> 3.5" scythe -> Suspended. This gets cl...

Re: MIKE CHIN ARE YOU LISTENING ????

Great review, thanks MikeC. One big question that im sure many people are still wondering though. Is there ANY way to fit this in a Scythe 2.5" Quiet Drive since its a bit thicker than your standard notebook drive? Perhaps by leaving out one of the 2x included thermal pads. I second this request. Time for a new 2.5" Review?

Just went through the list of recommended 2.5" drives, and noticed that all of them where a few years old. Maybe it would be time for a new review of one of the Brands flagships?

Re: Quiet DVD/CD - Why?

Seriously man, I have an MX-518 right now. I wouldn't have bought it if I had known of it's constant screeching. Not to hijack this thread... but a screeching MX-518 mouse? I've got two of those, and I've never had that kind of problem with either... Put your ear next to the bottom of the mouse. Yo...

Suggestions on 2.5" buy

I'm looking to buy a 2.5" to use as System drive. The ones that comes to mind is the Western Digital Scorpio 320GB 5400RPM SATA 2,5" or the Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 200GB 7200RPM SATA 2,5". The main thing that matters is noise. How quiet are these, are there other 2.5" drives that are much quieter? ...

I'm using a Akasa Integral Cabinet, and can't say anything bad except maybe, the price. It retails for about 70$ here in Sweden(450 SEK). Other that that, it's a really nice cabinet. It has choice for IDE/SATA and USB2.0/eSATA.

I'll jump in on this one. I've bought the S12 Noctua (1200rpm version) to try it in the same case. Unfortunately, I heard very pronounced whining sounds at medium speeds (between 500rpm and 1000rpm). This made the fan pretty much useless with automatic control, which is why I settled for S-FLEX 120...

Great build. I'm just curious why You chose the P12 fans instead of the S12? I'm just In love with the S12 and for me, the P12 is way too loud, (well, might be dramatic, it might just be 1-2 db, but my ears are the judge here :))

Why not also cut open the fangrills to remove possible "airwhining"?

For passive cpucooling - I would go with the Scythe Ninja REV. B instead. It has wider spaced fins, and allowes for more air to run through the heatsink.

I have a p182 with a corsair non-modular psu. (vx550 if I'm not mistaken). I would definately recommend a modular psu, the cable management will come in handy for the cables you WILL use (motherboard pwr, cpu pwr etc.). I don't know how quiet the Fourtron psus are, but I would get one noctua for the thermalright, and one for exhaust at the back. Both at 600rpm.

I have an 1tb WDGP in Scythe QD, and it's simply dead silent from 1m. I have it placed on soft foam at the intake vent, to get a little air running around it. it stays solid at 35c. Since you're gonna mount the discs in your case, I would suggest the Scythe enclosure, as the vibrations probably is t...

yes, I have to sacrifice a little, but I'm not really worried, My cpu is a 3.0Ghz Core2Duo.

Temps are: CPU: 39c/55c, GPU:40c/55c temps are idle/burn.

My WDGP is kept at 35c at all times.

Room temperature is about 22c.

I think I'll use a Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM on my CPU(TR 120 extreme), and the 1200RPM versions as case fans, how does that sound? I'm not sure how many case fans I need to run though in a P182! I'm thinking the back exhaust fan for sure, not sure about the top one. And probably the middle front fan, ...

You plug the fanconnector into the motherboard, The one on the graphicscard is a 2pin connector and will likely not fit. Running a 92mm fan at 1500rpm seems overkill for a hr-gt03, run it at 900, and you will have a almost quiet vga with "lower than stock" temps. (best choice is to strap a 120mm fan...

*EDIT* - How's the performance drop, is it anything you notice unless viewed under benching tests?

WD GP with Scythe Quiet Drive?

I'm thinking about buying a WD greenpower disc. which one is most quiet (numbers of platters etc)? Would an WD GP in a quiet drive give an "near silent" storage? an signifigant change versus my f1 samsungs? (750 and 500 gb editions)

to describe the noise in more detail, it's kinda like an 120mm fan going on very low rpm (it's still audiable from more than 10 feet away if I listen VERY VERY closely). the sound disappears some though if I hold the disc in my hand( and pressuring it together a bit). So I guess my first attempt wil...

I have 2 hdd drives (SAMSUNG HD753LJ and SAMSUNG HD501LJ). These are both enclosed in Scythe Quiet Drive hdd enclosures and that have reduced the seek quite a bit. These are placed seperately on foam (about an inch thick). The problem is that they still produce too much noise. I'm very sure it ain't...
