Re: Quiet / Noisy Monitor Survey

Dell U2412M. A very, very very very faint 'eee' noise at any brightness level less than 98%. But to all but the most sensitive ears, there's essentially no electrical noise to be heard. It's an order of magnitude quieter than the Dell SP2309W that I was using before. That monitor had audible electri...

Ooh, a bracket for attaching 2x 80mm fans to the outside of a PSU.

But how will you rout the power cable?

Re: Internal enclosure suggestions wanted.

In addition to the products linked to in ces' post, there is also the Nexus Drive-A-Way. I used this to silence a Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB with excellent results. It virtually eliminated airborne noise, although it did nothing to reduce vibration. I had it resting on foam to fix that problem. A mi...

Re: Is X-400 fanless suitable for Antec P183

What is the point to use a fanless PSU if we have to put a fan to vent it ? The point is that you have more control over noise and if you set up the airflow properly you can cool many components with a single fan (HDDs+PSU in the P18x cases). To expand on this, there are two reasons that a separate...

SPCR reviewed the Mini P180, and measured it's 200mm fan as being 30mm thick:

Is it really that bad? You might be able to just let the heatsink compact the foam when you put the side panel on. The tips of the heatpipes would be the only points of contact with the foam, and at least on the NH-U12P, they aren't sharp at all.

:( Two thoughts on my mind: 1) If the site was to come to a close, it would be great to have a final, concluding article, outlining things that SPCR has done to help influence silent computing. 2) If an online archive can't be created for whatever reason, it would be prudent for members to make pers...

This could be their reason for having the restrictive PSU intake vent: See the bottom of the page, fourth user comment: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=557&Itemid=61 Anyway, if it didn't affect airflow in the review, is there anything to complain about? Re: Scythe Kazemaru 2 Wide Blade Bearing 140MM fans. 500 vs

Oh? Where will you be installing those 140mm fans? They won't fit anywhere up front of the P18x, nor in the rear exhaust position. The only places they will fit are in the top exhaust position, or as a CPU or GPU fan. But to answer your question, I'd go for the higher RPM version and control it with...

Very nice, how it sound? Do you ear your PSU at idle? With the Slipstreams at 5v (~720RPM), it's a very pleasant kind of audible. Nice and smooth sounding. :) At idle the PSU fan is drowned out by the Slipstreams @ 5v. It ramps up significantly under CPU/GPU load however, a combination of it catchi...

Re: Cooling Asus 6850

Imo the Accelero S1, with very modest airflow, would be fine on the HD6850. My 5770 has an S1 on it. Case is a P182, 120mm intake fan right in front of the card, and a 120mm exhaust fan at the back as normal. Both running at ~500RPM. With a room temp of around 25c, temps get up to the mid-80's in Fu...

Re: Twin Frozr II Eyefinity Setup Without Using DisplayPort

You'll need a Displayport to VGA adapter.

Or if you want to keep the connection digital, an active Displayport to DVI adaptor. This option is more expensive though.

Double check that the heatsink base is making contact. You may need to remove the plastic spacers so that it makes firm contact. It's a common issue with the Accelero S1.

Which model 6870 have you got? Perhaps you could remove the stock fan and plastic shroud, and replace it with one or two 80/92mm case fans attached with twist ties or similar?

Re: Fan stragegy - what would be better?

I'd actually try to remove the free-floating fan completely. Without it, the back vents should provide a direct fresh air intake for the graphics card. I've tried that with my setup. Temps rise significantly, even with the bottom expansion slot covers removed altogether. Then again it may just be b...

Re: Fan stragegy - what would be better?

I've used a similar setup to cool a HD5770 . Temps would most certainly be better with a fan directly on the heatsink, but otherwise that intake fan provides enough air to keep the cards at safe temps. In my setup, the max GPU temp was ~84c in Furmark with all three system fans going at 500RPM and ...

If I were to work up the courage for such a test, what would I actually test? CPU load temps, and noise levels. I agree with that but it seems to me it could be accomplished with a fanless exhaust vent. Of course, but if it means that you'd have to put up with a significant increase in temps, then ...
