how long is the run? how much heat do the components generate? whats your maximum ambient temperature at the cabinet intake? I would skip pc fans and go more industrial, http://www.4hydroponics.com/growroom/items.asp?ItemNo=ductBooster8 Yep, if it's far enough away and you just want air you can hav...

Re: advice needed on scratch built
Have you considered any sound dampening foam? And if you're cutting 120mm holes you could use like... Thermalright TY-140s or Noctua P14s which both mount to 120mm screw points.

Re: I need a silent enclosure and hard drive
My DirecTV DVR makes too much noise. It's constantly accessing the hard drive. I need to find an external eSATA case and a quiet hard drive to use with my DVR. It has to be as quiet as possible. Any recommendations? All those DVR/PVR boxes have the hard drives mounted directly in the chassis and it...

Re: Best 120/140mm fan pulling thru high static pressure?
Can you fellows give me some recommendations on 12v 120mm or 140mm fans to be used at the end of a long run of 8 inch HVAC ducting? The ducting will be running from the top of an enclosed home theater equipment cabinet and I will install multiple fans at the end of the run to pull hot air out of th...

Re: Swap PSU fan out with a quiet one or no?
I have an Ultra LSP550 550w PSU with a bottom mounted 135mm fan and a rubber gasket at the mounts. I'd like to mod it with a quiet fan but have some concerns about whether a silent fan would provide enough cooling. There's plenty of space in my full ATX to run a duct to the front of the case if fre...

Re: Need a quiet PC case for i7 build, moderate OC
Don't go for a P183 when the is P280 available. Personally I'd go with either the P280 or R3. I chose the R3 for the moduvents, since I'd have to spend more time/resources to close off the exhaust vents on the P280. With the R3 I can leave them as is and be in great shape for noise. I'd say R3 for ...

Re: NH-D14 and Nexus Fans
DIdn't know that it was possible. ;) I thought that if Mike went through the trouble of using wire to tie the fans to the heatsinks, simply using the stock clips must not work for some reason. I'll try that then, thanks! They look like this, so they'll work with split style fan edges, not the strai...

Re: Need a quiet PC case for i7 build, moderate OC
I intend to re-build my audio/video workstation soon, in order to improve airflow and noise levels. I want the case to be as silent as possible, while still providing sufficient airflow for moderate OC of the CPU and for my nVidia card (at stock speed). I need some advice on which case to get, as I...

Re: Silent set-up is noisy - possibly harmfully so
You said you're using stock fans, if I remember that Lian Li has an exhaust fan and you've mounted your NH-D14 to blow air away from the 120mm exhaust. You're probably creating some air turbulence back there. Set up the NH-D14 to exhaust towards the 120mm exhaust and see how noise is, temps may also...

I had a Mugen 2 on my Asus P6T and I had no ram issues. Ripjaw X dimms here too, I did however have to raise the fan up a few cm but no big deal.

I'm thinking about repurposing an old PC for light HTPC use (web browsing, Hulu, possible MKV etc.. video files, no gaming) while spending the least $'s possible. It has an Athlon x2 2800+ CPU and an AGP video card slot. Seems like the latest gen GPU you can get in AGP is the HD4650/70 with the HD4...

Oh well I ended up removing the fans from the accelero twin turbo ii and strapping 2 120mm scythe slipstream 800rpm fans onto it instead. I then undervolted the fans to 7v, so they should run with 470rpm. The result? furmark maxes out at just velow 80 degrees. And I have a little bit of trouble hea...

http://www.silentpcreview.com/raidmax-viper Thanks for the review, but as with almost all Raidmax products they're simply terrible. For the same price range you can get a Bitfenix Outlaw that offers a neat motherboard mount and way more space and class. Why would anyone consider this Raidmax at all?

Re: Fractal Design XL vs Antec P180
The grommets are the only shortcoming that I'd take into consideration. Antec's thick silicon grommets are the best there are. I've read instances where people have taken Antec grommets from cases and put into other drive sleds like Fractal Design's. The gromets used by Fractal Design are good for ...

The R3, however, is an amazing case.
