Re: GTX 950 review compilation thread

I'm not too concerned about 1 wild data point, but these results are odd. Someone more in tune with the processor architecture might pull out a theory on what could be driving the 950 harder than the 750 Ti, but the review site does not explain what the data is or how they got it, so there is no ro...

We'll see - the titular 960 never came down much over here (still at or over 250). :?

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

Reviews are out for the 950 (not 750 ...this is where I wish there was a strikethru code) . 90W TDP. Most of the cards are clocked faster than stock and end up with 760 performance levels. Many have passive fans with 2D load. I'll start a compilation page later today. Looking forward to it, this ar...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

It's funny that you mentioned the 660 and 750Ti there. I did a sidegrade from 660 to a 750Ti last year, and while my framerates remained the same, I noticed a lot smoother gameplay. Couldn't explain it back then. This is the first time anyone has factually proven that. Nice! Thanks for verifying wi...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

You're right about the prospects, of course; the 750 Ti has me expecting small miracles of the 950, but we're back to hacking bits off instead of introducing major advances (Kepler vs Maxwell being the reason why the 750 Ti turned out so well). I just hope they do 'too good' of a hack job and someho...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

Exactly as Steve put it, except that the timetable may not always be so logical: the 660 Ti launched before the 660, for example ( or at least Nvidia chose to announce them in that order , a month apart ), same with the 560 Ti and the 560 (that time four months apart). You get the idea, and for me i...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

Ti is just Nvidia for better and a little more expensive , AFAICT. The definition is loose if it exists at all. They mostly use it to differentiate similar models into budget and performance . Regarding grades up and down: next-generation x50 may well match or exceed the old x60 in performance, AND...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

Yeah, I couldn't justify that for just midrange gaming and basic desktop use. €160 difference between the STRIX cards over here. We picked the 970 STRIX for one US build last month because over there the price difference is so little. The reason why I did not upgrade to the 960 STRIX (as I said I wo...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition

Midrange? Go for it. Should handle 1080p/1200p resolutions just fine ('just fine' defined as 60+ FPS in graphically intensive action games) if you don't use (massive) AA and eye candy. The 970 Option If the price difference is negligible and you can get a semipassive card, then another factor to con...

Re: Antec Signature S10: The Second Coming of Antec?

IMO, the consumer PC business really dropped the ball with cabling. If it were part of the case instead of the PSU (as seen with many servers), I would have spent far less time arranging wires over the years. They could've standardized this reasonably when modular PSUs appeared... Yeah, it's all st...

Looks good! Should the Shopping Links in the case table have an actual hyperlink? They do, but if you use a browser addon like NoScript, it'll block the two or three scripts from Amazon that are required to make the links work. Ah. Re: Antec Signature S10: The Second Coming of Antec?

Well what do you know. The basic idea of the "slot" (i.e. a ducted vent ) is clearly there in 2006. The earliest case with separate sections and compartments that I can think of is the P180, introduced in CES 2005, according to the 2005 SPCR hands-on Visual Tour . However, a quick browse through SPC...

Re: Antec Signature S10: The Second Coming of Antec?

A very interesting read, what a monster! Reminds me of the coming of the P180. The quibbles seem like teething problems that can be solved through smarter evolutionary choices. Case sections make sense, and I'm glad someone tried it out to this extent. I was very happy with the isolated HDDs in my P...

Re: Gigabyte GA-H77N-WIFI Mini-ITX Motherboard

I've got the Z77 version of this board and while the fan control works well, I'm having trouble with the PCH(?) heating up to 52+C which is by no means hot but enough to cause the rear case fan to spin a bit too fast... it also takes ages to get the temp back to low 40s. I wonder if there are any s...

You're right, Dxun, in that it does make (ruthless) business sense, and that's one reason there is outright hate for Tt: they just want your money and don't much care how they get it. Their marketing has been brazenly false (ludicrous dB claims, incorrect wattage), their original designs less than u...

Tt aren't even trying anymore. I think they made the power button square just to rub it in: "LOOK, it's not the same, this one shape is different (but the texture and visual style are not)!!1" Having to build around a standard format (ATX, mATX, mini ITX, etc.) does mean the black boxes will resembl...

Thanks for the review. I was actually waiting to see how the Dark Rock successor would pan out, even if I don't use megacoolers for builds. Looks like it's all quiet on that front still. The non-standard fan designs are just baffling: it's added cost for no benefit, surely, at least size and shape w...

Welp, time to upgrade. :o I've been wary of 100+ W cards, but according to TPU testing , this one looks like a winner. Average test consumption was just over the 100 W mark, so it shouldn't be a scorcher like a certain previous 144 W card - and thanks to the efficiency, you get a lot more performanc...

I was wondering, would the Antec P100 be a good case for a quiet ATX gamer? Antec has made good products in the past, and the P100 looks decent. Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version

In defense of harder grommets: they don't bleed as much if at all and won't squeeze out. The P180's grommets were a messy bunch and made me nervous as they slipped (lost shape) even with minimal tightening applied. Seemed to be a feature of the material and not a defect. The Define Mini's grommets a...
