Thanks for feedback, dukla. :) The 12V issue was quite interesting. Becuase I have browsing some forums since I wrote my say. Cheap PSU's get 12V raises sometimes. Could maybe be related to unproportional load on 3.3V to 12V. Seems like most things on my Mobo use 3.3V from some loose info I gathered...

Involuntary Overvolting
An overvolted PSU, a PSU that gives more voltage than specified. Might sound like an overclockers wet dream, but definitely not a fun thing for a silence enthusiast. So please read on and give an opinion. Disregard 5V in all cases since it gives normal values everywhere. Voltages from PSU unloaded (...

Mynci. I cant see how you can tell if its a bad or good fan? And why is a manual controller bad? Then you wont have a problem with a bad termistor controller anymore. You can regulate it yourself. Sorry.. but I cant see what you are missing :P Besides.. thats just one example. There are others. I he...

Here are new silent contenders with 80 Gb platters and their question marks: "Seagate 7200.7" 4 variants. 40,80,120,160 Gb. 40,80 one platter. 120,160 two platters. Specs of 7200.7 says that 40 Gb variant is quieter than the other three which have the same noise specs. Even though the 80 Gb variant ...

Thanks for good input Kostik. :) Looks like one have to bypass the termistor and use a reostat or something else. Unless the PFC variant really do need that much more cooling. But from your description, I think not. Mynci: This has probably been posted in this thread or some other "Fortron 120mm"-th...

And crappier. They use a Fixed Point pipelines for pixel shaders where ATI uses floating point. This might cause FX to be quicker in apps that uses FP since ATI emulates FP with floats. But floats are much better in several ways. More precision and the circuit design becomes more clean. And one impo...

Guess noone tried that. Well.. I had some moving cartons filled with various stuff that I had sitting in a corner. I moved those to both side of the computer case and as a result I earned a couple of dB. If you dont get what I mean let me give you some examples. http://www.acousticsciences.com/qsf.h...

Punkish. Even if the control is linear why would they put the starting point that much higher than the non-linear? Oh well. I really need a new PSU and I'll have to settle with the PFC variant. Those who find the PFC variant noisy.. is it because of the fan engine/construction/turbulence (possible f...

Tomshardware review: http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030127/geforce_fx-05.html Quote: "Additional voltage connector. The FX consummates up to 75 watts! The Radeon 9700 Pro has 54 watts." Wonder if the additional connector uses 12V or 5V though. Usually 5V and 3.3V goes on the same consumption...

Hmm.. pointless review for us silent-enthusiast. :) Even though it seems like its somewhat slower than CudaV .. should be a whole bit slower than 7200.7 then. But nevertheless. It made me look around a bit. And it seems that "Spinpoint P80" drives are available at some stores now. I also noticed tha...

I modded my ASUS GF2GTS with a black old thinfinned CPU heatsink that was about 110 grams. Drilled holes in the HS, used ASII between and soft steel wire to wring it on there. It might sound ghetto but it is quite securely attached. Since the ASUS has 4 mounting holes the pressure gets even also. Bu...

I'd like som flexible pipe too. I have some ideas which types of companies that might have such things.. but nothing more. Its not the type of stuff ventilation companies use. Soundtrap experience?
Anyone had any experience with using soundtrapping method to reduce noise from computers? That is to put up huge soft sound-absorbing and/or room dividing walls. There are alot of products for this which is mostly for controlling regular noise in recording studios, working environment etc.

Heat and airflow
Does anyone have a clue if there is some approximation formula for how to tell how much airflow (cfm) you need to transport a certain ammount of heat (watt)? I guess it depends alot on a myriad of factors but if we limit ourselfs to removing hot 'air' from a known volume. No heatsinks or anything li...

Have to concur. Mufflers only remedies crappy fans. Airflow is still airflow and it makes sound. Better to get a fan that produces less noise with the same airflow. Preferably one that you can control the speed on.. so that you can adjust your heat/noise ratio to a comfortable level. To make a good ...

I'm a bit confused. Is there no possibility to do accoustic management whatsoever on 7200.7? Or does it only apply to SATA.. or was that for CudaV ? Would appreciate if someone with exact knowledge would clear this up. I know from somewhere that the CudaIVs was set to low-noise accoustic management ...

Well.. the percentual difference is probably not important. Whats worse if there is a threshold breach which makes a component go off and make much more noise than normal. As with the Cuda in the thread I mentioned. Or fans that starts screaming ( like they do when they are dying :) . Btw.. the Seag...

Samsung has not presented any new drives for a while. The last one was SpinPoint V60 which was 60 GB platter 5400. They only have 40 GB platter 7200 which is SpinPoint P40. Which one of the 7200.7 single platter variants did you refer to? According to the manual (cuda7200pm.pdf) of 7200.7 the 80 GB variant of the two single platter versions has higher sound power than the 40 GB for some reason. I mailed Seagate and asked if this was correct and they said 'Yes' in like ...
