Re: 24-pin cable to 20-pin motherboard
Plug it in, leaving the appropriate 4 pins just dangling off the end: http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#24into20 Ah! It doesn't fit, though. So I guess I will just saw off the extra 4 pins. It ruins the power supply for modern motherboards, but it's a crappy 300W Bestec (f...

24-pin cable to 20-pin motherboard
What's the easiest way to connect a 24-pin power supply (not 20/24-pin detachable) to a 20-pin motherboard?

Re: Fractal Design Define Mini MicroATX Tower
With a tower case, the footprint is independent of the number of expansion slots. MicroATX is not mainly about saving space. It's a cost reduction...which is why there are not many deluxe microATX cases.

Should work fine, just mount it with fan/vent on top.Worker control wrote: This case doesn't seem like it would be a good match for a passive or semi-passive PSU. I guess the idea is that you'd go with a Solo II for that.

This case has more empty space than most. It would be nice if they included a removable bottom drive cage. Or at least one drive mount (removable or not) at the bottom.
Another possibility is an intake fan duct.

Do you have a 3-pin to power supply adaptor handy? (Most case fans come with one). If that doesn't work, then you know the problem is with the fan, not the motherboard.

No, I think you should get a standard TDP part and run it normally. Idle power won't be any higher than the low TDP version. I assume you are getting the Xeon because you want ECC memory?

Use a normal ATX power supply. That way you don't have to worry about power limits. No reason to use a low TDP CPU either.

Just one question. Why? Seriously...the CPU maker goes to a lot of trouble to determine the maximum safe clock. Why mess with it? What's the point? Well there's one clear error here. The cpu maker does not determine maximum safe clock. They determine some sort of clock they want to sell chips at al...

What do you mean by "12.23V in BIOS"? If you mean that speedfan disagrees with the BIOS, you should ignore speedfan and believe the BIOS.

Idea for small but potent case
I hate all the "gamer" mini-ITX cases on the market. They are cramped and limiting yet have large footprints. This is my idea for a better one: Tower style case, mini-ITX motherboard, 2 slots. Power supply on top, in front (not rear!). Top intake vent for power supply. Hard drive bays below power su...

Re: Seasonic X-400 Fanless PSU
I'm considering using this PSU to replace the Antec EarthWatts 380 that I have in a Sonata case. The instructions call for it to be installed with the vented side up; however, the clearance to the top of the chassis is only about 1/4 inch. Is this a problem? My alternative is the Sea Sonic X-650--a...

Thanks for the link. An interesting thing about the thin mini-ITX spec is that the CPU position is standardized. Finally! This should stimulate the development of heat sink cases.

So I did, but lo and behold a major issue rises: the NT01-E blocks the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot on every single commercially available mATX intel Mainboard I can find! . There are certainly microATX boards with x16 slots in the #3 position. For example (socket 1155 boards): http://usa.asus.com/Motherboard...

Intel LGA1155 motherboard with integrated power supply
DH61AG:

This is a pretty interesting product, not because of the low profile, but because it's the first and only (as far as I know) LGA1155 motherboard with an integrated power supply (external 19V).

I'd rather have a single 140mm fan, even though that makes the case footprint larger.cheers wrote:is there anyone else who would rather have two 120mm fans on the rear panel than any fans on the top panel?
Then you are ready for 180mm tall heat sinks (with 140mm fans) if/when they become available.

Another observation is that there are 9 expansion slots. This means you could put a wide graphics card in the 7th slot position (if the motherboard has a x16 slot there) and still have 6 free slots.
