And, no, 2-3 years for a hard drive is really too short. I tend to upgrade my systems about every 3-5 years and having to swap out $200 in drives every other year makes me upset. Idunno what exactly your doing to toast your consumer grade HDD's so fast, but i havnt had a single drive go on me for o...

They wouldnt, they arnt going to be marketed as desktop PC's. They will be marketed as HTPC/DVR's that can run windows, burn HD content, surf the net all in a super small silent package.QuietOC wrote:Why would anyone buy an Atom-based desktop?
Its basically an Apple TV on crack for the PC side of the house.

3? For JMicron you have 2, IIRC some time ago it was 1. For the Vertex-like Super Talent you get 1. Ridata: 1-2. AFAIK no cheap drive gives you 3 years and just a while ago 1 year was standard. For enterprise you usually get 3-5 years. For the Intel x25-m it is a 3 year warrenty Source: http://www....

He did not have a quality reply. He was nitpicking a true statement because i phrased it as absolute. It would be like if i said the sky was blue, and he said i was wrong because sometimes its red. Sure sometimes it is, but so that we dont all have to speak and write like lawyers drafting up a legal...

why would consumers need server grade hardware? your logic is out of left field. The reason is that only the server grade SSDs are close to the reliability of a standard consumer hard drive. The others are well below that. 3 year warrenty is pretty much standard for most HDD's, and thats what this ...

why would consumers need server grade hardware? your logic is out of left field. So if we were to then apply this logic, we should all toss out our Western Digital Green Power drives because their not used in servers, and thus will almost certainly die a premature death. Intel doesnt recommend using...

You can get solar panals for your house that will likely generate more power than you currently use for around a 40k investment. Read an article about it a couple years ago, a guy did it and from the money he MADE selling power back to the power company from his excess along with the money he was sa...

So you said RPMs only noticeable/major effect other than noise would be large file transfers but large file transfers are effected by tons of factors and RPMs are more of a factor in random access than they are in STR. I think the power supply will be questionable for that 8800GT. Totally - I agree. I guess my initial post wasn't clear - I'm not using the PSU that comes with the case in my gaming PC. How else can you explain the enormous retail success of the P4 I already did. Public perception. People buy what they PERCEIVE to be better, in this case a larger number on the box. Talk about hitting a brick wall. Sure cheer on AMD for slowly slipping further and further behind its competition, ma...

Would the PC-B25B overcome the aluminum issue with its double walled side panels which i would expect to be fairly heavy. You can get some heavy rubby insulation type stuff to "glue" onto the panels to eleviate the issue completely, but its just extra cost. If you really like the case and dont mind...

9800GT = 8800GT with a die shrink 9800GT > 9500GT They arnt even comparable, there in completely different performance catagories. Because of that, it does not make sense to compeare 999$ core 7i to 30$ Sempron.. Thats a little out of context dont you think? Its more like comparing a $290 Core i7 to a $190 Phenom II X4. The premium priced products are rarely profitable, especially in IT industry. You have missed my point compl...

Heres a site that will make custom sized pleated air filters that will fit a 120mm fan perfectly.
http://www.airfilterusa.com/custom.html
I think if you go with like MERV7, you can get a pack of 12 for around $90 shipped.

The only major difference your really going to notice between a 7200 vs 5400rpm is when loading large files. RPM affects latency aka random access NOT throughput aka large files. Platter density is what helps for large files. You tell that to my 5400rpm drives that load large files into memory slow...

speed would be about the same, probably slower on the 5400 2.5" drives. They may be a tad quieter than the GP's if you pick quiet models. They'll use less power, but not much less. Maybe 5w each? About the only bonus you get is reduced size, but i mean if space isnt a current issue for you, then why...
