Well results are impressive... According to speed fan the CPU cores are idling around the 20degree mark and the Chipset about 45 degrees. I have not loaded it up yet. The only change really is using a stock northbridge cooler (which is tiny) and I have moved the CPU heatsink around 90 degrees so the...

My Silent Performance HTPC Struggle - Moving to P35 Core2Duo
Hi Guys, Well I think keeping my situation all in a single post may help others not make the mistakes I have made in the past. I came to Silent PC Review about 3-4 months back wanting to silence my nForce4 SLI (board) system. I went about accruing various silent components and the result was really ...

What processor Q6600 Quad or E6850 DC?
I have now decided on the GA-P35C-DS3R board... This leaves a processor to be selected. The new E6850 or the older Q6600 quad core... both the same price. Like your thoughts. I am not big on gaming or anything like that. It is essentially a Media Centre Vista PC that records my TV and streams to my ...

A real shame... the Fusion is only mini-ATX, I just know the second I buy a mini-atx board I am going to want further expansion slots. As it stands now all I need is a PCI-E VGA slot and PCI-E slot for my tv tuner. That will leave a couple free I suppose... although my VGA card does take up 2 slots!

E6850 3GHz Quad Core 1333FSB Processor... Am I mad?
Hi Guys, Saw these processors come in at a REAL good price... less than I nearly bought a E6600 for recently. I want to use this in my next HTPC build with a new p35 board (Still undecided what to run). Would this processor be too hot for a silent system? Am I mad to do this? I will be cooling with ...

Thanks for all your help guys... I am going to ditch most of my internals as they stand now. I have a 32GB SDD on order. I will remove the HDD cage and open up the intake a little more. I am getting a new p35 board (undecided on model just yet) and a E6850 processor (call me mad as I think this is q...

I kinda figured sooner or later, you'd be back with heat problems. Frankly, you just have too much passively cooled equipment for a case that size and with that style of airflow. Since there is only 1 intake (underneath the hard drive rack), you need to make every bit of that airflow count. The N/B...

Appreciate all your help. Unfortunately I just kinda went for it as I read about things. The PSU I bought first thinking - great. Having read reviews it was doing well. Next was the graphics card and this was fine, bit warm, but not too bad. Next came the passively cooled northbridge, it was only at...

Looks like the WD SE16 drive ticks all the boxes, available up to 750GB - I am going to go for the 500GB which is half the price of the 750. The other alternative I found which some may say is a better drive is the Samsung T-Series, available up to 400GB, but I cant find stock of this easily and it ...

SSD for OS but what LARGE HDD for storage?
Hi Guys,
I will be getting a SSD shortly for my OS install and apps, but will also need a large quiet disk for music, movies, recorded TV etc... what can you recommend. Ideally 500GB or 750GB - seek noise kept to a minimum with fair performance.
Thanks,

To be fair it is a pretty large HTPC case. I will sort out some airflow in that area. I have a thermalright 128 cooler now with a 120mm fan coolind downward... hopfully produce some airflow near the memory, failing that I will get another 80 or 120mm fan blowing towards the rear over the memory. I m...
