Well, you've kinda isolated that its not a power supply issue, right? then there's just the whole rest of the computer to troubleshoot... BTW having dodgy voltage readings in bios/"HW monitor apps" isnt unusual, i've not come across too many motherboards who actually reports all the voltages 100% co...

I really like your solution for the sata cables :) What kind of fans do you have infront of the bottom drives? and are those P12 fans on the 4in3's? I've heard mixed reviews on how the F2 1.5TB's work in raid, ranging from "dont use them, they cant handle it" from backblaze, to others having no prob...

lga1366 is most probably the best socket for "future proofing" as it is now, it will probably be the flagship socket for intel for the next couple of years, while lga1156 will be their value socket. As it is now tho, having 3 vs 2 memory channels doesnt really mean much for performance apart from in...

Actually, a cooler like the Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme will do the same, you need to buy new brackets for it, but thats not really a problem. It will fit the i7 no problem, just needs a $7 bracket... :D The U120E was put on market in may 2007 and is still showing very good performance, even on th...

The difference is that where WD intentionally cripples their consumer grade drives, Samsung drives (bar the F2 1.5TB) usually works fine in raid. I know of atleast 200 F1 1TB drives in use, and the failure rate is close to zero, even tho alot of them are used in RAID. Samsung has better long-term re...

This is actually quite an interesting field, because the various manufacturers implement SMART in different ways. I'll give some examples from my own seagate LP drive, one that is slowly failing (reallocated sectors increasing...), but still shows as OK in smart. The interesting parts pertaining dri...

Thats one of the strenghts with boinc i think, easy to configure. I run boinc here, but it wont fire up any processing unless the machine has been idle for 5 minutes.
tbh I got well fed up with jumping through hoops to get "the mostest" out of my computer running F@H, so I just didnt bother anymore.

I also have one LP drive now with reallocated sectors, so im gonna look at replacing it at one point. A little FYI about newegg reviews. They have the crappiest packaging system known to man when it comes to harddrives, so ALOT of failures on the whole can probably be attributed to transport damage,...

One of my two, 2 TB LP drives makes clicks of death so often that it slows to a crawl during use. The other didn't for the first day of its use, but does click now, rarely. I'm not talking about the usual sounds of seeking, but instead, characteristic "clicks of death." Now I know all hard drives f...

post i quoted underneath In my case it was 100% failure with Samsung. First with the 750GB model, Second with the 1TB model. The thing about Samsung is there is no advanced RMA, so you have to buy a new one just to recover your data to. The 750GB failure prompted the purchase of the 1TB model. The ...

I just realized I answered a 5 year old poll, and got a used 23" monitor just last week, produced in 2004.. retailed for nearly $2k, but I paid $150 for it. One CCFL change later ($40) it will produce better colours than most new $200 TN panels. Too bad the "reasonably cheap and good enough" lcds ar...
