Yeah the Acceleros don't take more than one slot in excess of the graphics card. However being a fanless cooler, having a large card right below can make it less effective. Side fans are typically best used blowing inwards. Depending on its position you could possibly make a fan duct (cardboard or p...

The VF1000 only occupies one extra slot just as the review says on the data page, and really is easy to mount safely too I'll add. However even at the lowest fan speed setting using the provided Fanmate my VF1000 was still to noisy for me. So I hooked up the Fanmate to a 5V connector from a Zalman M...

There's a "hotfix" driver version 8.6 out for the 48xx range, in case you haven't tried it already.

First I'd check if underclocking the cards core or/and memory just a little would be good enough to avoid the artifacts. Then I'd try mounting a slowly rotating fan to circulate air into the card slots area. There are brackets for this and probably some ideas on how to make one yourself on this foru...

The BIOS claims the default is 1.2125V. The readout from the boards voltage meter in the BIOS reports a resulting voltage of 1.188. SpeedFan reads (presumably from the same sensor) an idle voltage of 1.12 and load about 1.152-1.68V... I'll reboot once and check those scores in the BIOS once more and...

I'll just chime in and note that with the latest beta BIOS (F13i) this GA-P35-DS3 motherboard seem to have regained an old cold boot (complete power off) voltage problem, which leads to the default voltage being used regardless of the manual setting. Now I have only tested with a higher than default...

I found a workaround for my two striped drives that didn't want to go to bed. Running the SiI interface in non-raid mode and instead striping the drives in software through Vista lets the drives run together about as fast and fall asleep when they're not used. Supposedly this method is even less rel...

If you run the Nvidia SATA interface in non-raid mode(BIOS setting) and uninstall the Nvidia SATA driver; Vista should install its own set of drivers for the SATA interface in ATA mode. (shows up as standard ide controller in device manager) That works best on my system both for drive sleep and perf...

With five drives under Vista I've had good results, and it's noticeable since my case has an open front mesh. However, the interface and its drivers has a say too. For instance after I striped two disks on a SiI-3132 interface they would never go to sleep sleep. Installing Nvidias SATA driver on my ...

A nice look at the factors we care about. My Powercolor 3870 has an even worse noise signature with a very noticeable ticking noise, and I'm waiting for an S1 to replace it. It was nice to see how the card looked with the standard cooler removed. The memory and mosfet heatsinks don't seem too easily...

Two 800rpm fans for exhaust will do a good job too. While surely they will blow less air than fans at 1200rpm, with the dual exhaust fan placement at the rear/top end of the case they will generate ample airflow while producing very little noise. The Tricool fans spinning at 1200rpm on the "low" set...

Glad to see that. I'm just waiting for the Chrismas sales/shipping craze to calm down a bit before replacing my good old 7900GTX. The 3870 cooler is a bit cheaply built in comparison but with those figures I guess the low load noise level can't be a problem. You probably have already but check the p...

Just installed an Epsilon 600 and while the air woosh is pretty silent the fan has some whirring noise that is clearly audible. I'd guess that changing out the fan should solve that, but it's an operation I'd prefer to avoid for at least a while. And on the other hand my current case has thin Alu si...

I haven't actually used one but confess never to have understood the great idea behind having heatpipes in that configuration. If the contact area is also bad then it's clearly just for show. :) And besides that if one mounts any standard 3.5" desktop drive in a 5.25" bay there will be so much air a...

I hooked my ATI Silencer 1 onto a regular power connector (using a 3-pin extension with bare pins that are easy to persuade into the smaller fan connector) but got just as much clicking on 12V as when connected to the R9800pro card. It's better. Not quiet, just as you assumed, but better. The larger fans and the automated speed regulation in accordance to core temperature helps to at least make it quite okay at low load usage. I'm equally happy with my 160GB SP1614C. On overall a little less noise than even my good old Seagate ATA-5 and ATA-4 drives, despite the JVC motor on this Samsung, and despite a less favorable (noise-wise) mounting in a 5,25" slot using cheap metal brackets. I can definitely see myself getting anot...
