My reply didn't work. Well here's the short version. The design of the case needs to be such that the aluminum is for cooling, not just for style. If the hard drive brackets conduct heat well to the side panels you get that much more surface area for cooling, but most are not designed that way.

First a question: What thermal paste do you use between heatpipes and heatsink? It looked like your temps was ok. Was they even near critical values when you ran at 2.2GHz? You could have crashed for other reasons. This could be tested by increasing the vcore slightly. Either you get a crash a lot ...

You know, that's what I'd be worried about. Although I don't know how much affect it would have. Vibration would be a concern. A pro for Lan parties is you can provide the tunes. Another thought I've had, but may not work for a system with just one driver, is that with enough drivers (or displacemen...

That had to do with the machine I suppose. Defn of "lap": "any device for bedding mechanical components together using a fine abrasive to polish the mating surfaces" It shouldn't be a problem if you have a Al/Cu part because they will grind down evenly since you are laying it on a flat glass surface...

Here is an article about it. http://www.overclockers.com/tips1015/ Basically you should lay the glass down, as the flat surface, lay the paper on the glass and then slide the part back and forth over the paper. The paper should be something like 200, 300, 400, 600, etc... depending on how much rough...

Hottest temp so far is 46 C. Update: I booted in at 2.02GHz and loaded the CPU for around 5 minutes ...

I would expect you to only have problems if you turn the unit off and leave it to cool down. If it's on the whole time then it should stay warm enough to not worry about condensation. Condensation occurs when the temperature of the item is at the dew point or lower. The dew point is when the air can...

Intel's response, well, one thing they are doing is promoting the 3GHz parts to people. They have a special sale to retail store workers. This gives them temporary new "sales people."

The other dimensions are about 7" by 2.8" and the fin spacing looked similar to that of a P4 or Athlon OEM style heatsink. Based on Wakefield's thermal ha...

I have unplugged the fan on my 8500 and didn't change the heatsink. I have a fan blowing in the general direction, but not on it. I'm not playing games though.

I suspect it would be better to put a larger heatsink on it.
