Re: Passive 1156

Bump. OP is talking about completely passive, not with a fan a couple of inches away. I've recently revived an old s754 sempron with a pico PSU and AC freezer 7, for 0 moving parts system.. and looking into upgrade options. I think i've seen people with completely passive C2D systems here... Has any...

Re: New sub £500 build advice needed

Some comments; I wouldn't recommend getting a 5450. If you don't need much graphics power then i would look towards integrated graphics to save money/heat. The integrated graphics on intels new processors is on a par with that, and may be worth keeping in mind. As above you should elaborate on what ...

Samsung F3GP 1.5TB

I am considering a possible HDD upgrade from my current Samsung F1 1TB. (rather disappointing how little the HDD world has moved on since) The F4EG seems to be the best fit 2TB wise, but what about 1.5TB?? Those that i can see that are worth considering: Samsung F2EG, F3EG, 7200.11, Barracuda LP, WD...

They change them at ~1PM so this wasn't relevant for very long. Xigmatek S963 for £11.49.. was that with VAT? would have very been nice if so (£15 w/ VAT 'today')

Are there any plans for a card with HDMI/VGA/DVI port config.?? I would much prefer it, having a 2xHDMI monitor with no DVI. Plus, it allows for triple displays with just as much (more) flexibility as 2xDVI-I's. I have no use or desire for S-Video in 2009 and beyond! Also, since this has a max power...

having P4 boards around, what i would suggest is that you get a mobile P4 chip off ebay. (will be very cheap, <£5). by default it will run at 1.2ghz (speedstepmulti); this can be 'fixed' by breaking a pin IIRC but for your scenario i would leave it as it is. (this has been discussed here before so ...

OK, so for 1:1 (clock, and data rate with dual-channel memory), any ddr-2 800 will max out anything up to [4x400]fsb {which is more than enough for my purposes, and heat}. but, with a [4x200]fsb CPU, the motherboard will not likely allow the 1:1 (clock) memory: ratio. Q: Are there any good g31 board...

It lacks a 1:1 memory ratio for 800 MHz FSB chips, so you will give up some overclocking performance with the slower Pentium Dual Cores or Celerons (or you need to buy faster RAM). can you elabourate a bit please? i get the general idea but aren't up to date on the intel side.. and would like to kn...

i have been doing a little more reading. the 780g is definately very nice but its lack of 8 channel hi-res LPCM over HDMI means that i would want a 4670 with it, which-- whilst lacking a 'hybrid power' feature-- would make many of its best features useless for me. the g35/45 seem to have a lot of pr...

Re: Chipsets/mobos comparison (budget, multimedia, quiet, ma

Analog out looks fine at 1600x1200@60Hz sorry i meant audio. which i am fairly sure is limited to 2 channel 48khz LPCM via digital (SPDIF out over HDMI) on the 780g. it could still be achieved by adding the 4670 of course. the e5200 is not out of the question. can anyone find a decent review (which...

Chipsets/mobos comparison (budget, multimedia, quiet, matx)

i haven't been keeping up lately on hardware.. and building a new PC with the following considerations; budget (value), multimedia (1080p playback, at least 5 channel LPCM 96/24 over HDMI), features, noise/power. approximately in that order. anyway i am looking for the pros and cons of the chipsets/...

the 120w limit should be fine, but thats not the end of it.... if your XPS power brick is 18v, you will need the picopsu which accepts a wide input; the regular one passes through the 12v. i'm not sure that they do one which has enough power on the 12v line, and even if so it would be less efficient...

not fundamentallly flawed turn it upside down, take the cover off where the cpu cooler is, disconnect the existing fan (or put a resistor in or something to slow it down), and then blow a low speed 120mm fan over it. test it with speedfan + stressing program to check that it doesn't overheat.. if so...

anyway, it can't do any harm if you have them lying around. the thermal tape shouldn't be too much of a problem, as the heat flow rate wouldn't be that high anyway. it is already travelling through plastic remember. (and better than nothing anyway).
