P4 3.06 running at 3.20GHz
Zalman 7000Cu with a custom modded silenx 92mm fan running just above threshold for turning my guess is ~800rpm no rpm monitoring. I get 60 degrees cpu load under full cpuburn x 4 load at ambient 30 degrees. It's a fairly open case though.

yes, mine had to use the silent adapter in order to make it sound the same as the Intel. :( Grab a fanmate and use it to drop the flow further. Either put it in series with the silent adapter resistor, or mock up a 5v line to power the fan. I dropped it till the fan stopped then slowly incremented ...

oh, and I was disappointed that it wasn't noticeably quieter than the stock fan. In fact I noticed no difference at all, and I'm as picky as they come. :D Prior to pentium4 the Intel stock coolers were always markedly quieter than amd ones which is why there was little to no market for aftermarket ...

really? The Nexus 120mm at 12V is quieter than the Zalman in 7000B at 5V? Wow. Well that's suprising to hear. From what I read the Nexus should be around 22.6 dbA at 12V .. which to me is pretty loud already. :D Oh, I also have the following fans so maybe someone can comment on these for comparison...

So you are sure the Nexus 120mm fan will boot and is quieter than the Zalman at the lowest settings for my CPU? I have the 7000Cu and the Zalman fan at its lowest setting in my very quiet setup was positively noisy! I had to do a fan swap to get it quiet. Of course it's all relative but the Nexus12...

Really? According to the NCIX forums the XP-120 should fit my motherboard. I'm aware the Zalman is the cheapest solution at half the price of the XP-120 :D . But considering I've already spent $300 (CDN) on my fanless parts, I figured what's another $40. If cost is no issue then the X...

I'll try it after I finish compiling OpenOffice, but what is the chipset of your video card? As I said in that topic it is not a high spec card; a 4464dvi but the heatsink is actually cold to touch with that setup and is fine even without the fan on it. ...compiling openoffice? /me smells gentoo at...

I can see no reason why it would improve performance more on a 400GB drive than it does on an 80GB drive. Because no one has deemed it necessary to make a 400gig drive with 40 megs of cache? Of course, who says they're not wrong to not do that? Wow a triple negative. Now if only I had a parser to u...

I'm not exactly sure if 8 MB cache is really that important for an 80 GB. I mean I can see it for a bigger one, say, 400 GB ;P, but 80 GB, which is only 20%, doesn't need that much, if you ask me. But then again I do know more cache is always better -.-... I don't understand why you think that. I c...

I'm still searching for an ideal case (120mm fans, sound dampening materails) that's available here in Australia. ARC http://www.arc.com.au are stocking antec cases and their prices are the best around as I discovered from reading these forums. Currently, however, they only stock the Antec SLK3700B...

Put it on and try it? Monitor your temperatures during idle and during a stress test and see how it goes. You won't damage your hardware due to overheating; if heat is a problem it will crash or hang before it damages the hardware, but if you monitor the temperatures and they stay below 70 degrees C...

There are many vga cards that may allow you to put a decent style heatsink on it like this: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=19538 ah that's exactly what i was looking for! sadly, the image shows that at some point in the past, the heatsink mounting holes have changed orientation fr...

The nexus fans just seem to run at lower RPM's and less CFM, they don't really have a different design That's not correct. Fans running at the same CFM can produce very different sound patterns, with less well designed fans often whining and clicking. Furthermore, if a fan is designed to run at low...

N4464D active cooler to passive heatsink conversion
Well this was a bit of a fluke. I've had this Gigabyte AGP card that had one of those noisy 40mm fans on the heat sink even though it's not a particularly high performance card. I had removed the fan a while back and was pointing an 80mm case fan at it instead to keep it quiet. I recently bought mys...

Very nice and neat! Now go that step further and do fan mods to the things you haven't. The standard fan on the vga cooler is probably the noisiest thing there and you should rip it off and put a quiet 80mm case fan somehow blowing onto it or put a completely silent zalman heatpipe cooler on it. The...

Fan speed effect on life expectancy
I've often seen it quoted that undervolted fans running lower speed will last longer. However low speed fans (at full voltage) are rated to have the same MTBF as their high speed cousins. This does not seem to indicate that lowering the fan speed will extend the life of an undervolted fan. Does anyo...
