How 'bout just getting a new quiet HSF, the Speeze Whisperrock's are excellent for the cost and use a standard 80mm fan. I swapped the fan on a Whisperrock II for a 80mm L1A and undervolt w/ a fanmate. Whisperrock II is $13/shipped, Whisperrock IV is $19/shipped from newegg.

I've RMA'd to Newegg before, they tried to charge me a 15% restocking fee on a retail boxed motherboard that was DOA. With a minor amount of "negotiating" they waived the fee. Just point out to them that Samsung drives are marketed as quiet and the one you received is not. They can and do waive the ...

Turn the PC off?'' Your PSU takes AC power and converts it to DC, the most we can ask is that it do its job efficiently, quietly and reliably. Though the TP380S is not bad, there are better choices for cool quiet PSUs. Read the PSU reviews and especially for the Noisetaker and rev A3 Seasonic ...

Most 3-wire fans are equipped with a RPM (tach) lead which outputs two pulses per rotation of the fan. For all practical purposes, without the RPM lead, it is not possible to monitor fan RPM. Thus, RPM of your 4-wire fan is not monitorable, even if it is adapted to 3-wire. Regarding your Sonata PSU,...

IGP NForce2/Barton 2500+, stock speed (PC2700), 2-2-2-5
865PE/P42.4C, stock speed (PC3200), 2-3-2-5

I was poking around on the FSP website when I decided to DL and review the pdf specs for the FSP300-60PFN. I actually have 2x evercool plastics at 5v, they are very quiet indeed, but when placed in a 120mm fortron psu, even at 5v they're not quiet enough, pushing ~33cfm. On my setup, speedfan is configured to run my 7000AlCu @ 30% unless CPU temp hits 42C (uncorrected P4P800dlx reported temp). When 42C is reached, speedfan kicks the fan speed up to 50%. With yo...
