With apologies to Mats... Seems to me the development of USB has been very well planned and executed. Was there a major headache, or even a noticeable hiccup, going from USB1 to USB2? Did swathes of non-techies suddenly find their gadgets stopped working and they didn't know why? No. Will there be a...

Not really; but I would say you get a bigger "silent" range with the 1200 so unless you really need the higher CFM of the 1600 the 1200 is the logical choice.syrian_gamer wrote:why wouldn't you recommend me the 1600 rpm version? Just because it will probably be way to loud and unbearable and thus useless ?

Yeah the 800 is a fit and forget solution for those wanting to use 12V and not bother with a controller. It's also an option for those wanting to undervolt it and have a ridiculously slow, essentially silent fan. Go for the 1200. Unless you have a PC made entirely of steaming hot magma you shouldn't...

Another possible reason: ...Microsoft is keen on USB 3.0, and SuperSpeed will certainly be supported by Windows 7, though you may have to wait for Service Pack 1 for it. Support for Vista in due course is possible, but we suspect the drive to 7 will negate the need for it. We can't see XP getting US...

Had one right in the middle of my chest that was so huge and hung around for so long that I seriously began to think I was sprouting a third nipple. Interesting fact: the nose is bar none THE most painful place to have a hair removed from. So much so that if you're ever slacking off of work for the ...

@Yukon: Reading your post got me thinking - how difficult would it be for Antec to offer options for the door, or even aftermarket replacement doors? It is after all an easily-removable part. Then they wouldn't have to try and "win with a single case for all people" as you say. For what it's worth I...

...this is the first time we've seen completely round standoffs. Antec used them before in the SX1040-II (at least they did on my one) although they were of steel and welded in place, rather than brass and preinstalled. Why a complete circle wasn't cut instead is a mystery — there is absolutely n...

Re: Win 7, what compels you to upgrade?
I don't know if it's so much to scare people away from netbooks, though. It seems to me like a way for MS to double dip -- A customer pays for a Win 7 Starter OEM license when they buy the netbook, then they have to pay later to upgrade to higher end version once they realize that Starter is crippl...

Re: Win 7, what compels you to upgrade?
Like I said earlier I'm kind of an MS hater, but I can give credit where it's due. You might want to give Win 7 a shot before dismissing it, seems to run much better than Vista did. I'm running Win 7 on a weak little netbook and performance is great. Much more responsive than Ubuntu, and maybe slig...

TBH, I don't feel that Windows explorer has changed all that much over the years. W7 seems to have scaled back some of the annoying things in Vista's explorer. Vista did have alot of extra crap such as the 'ratings' info, 'date taken' sometimes there instead of 'date modified', etc, but I haven't s...

Re: Win 7, what compels you to upgrade?
Not so - MS have stated that RC1 is the one and only release candidate, and the final release before they start boxing it up for retail and sending the code to OEMs.Mats wrote:It's highly unlikely that the final product will look like the RC.

You're right about the top/rear "competition" thing, but why replace that with 2 rear fans in series when 1 will do? I don't think static pressure brings about a need for 2 fans in series. Besides, by placing them in series you'll get all sorts of audible intermodulation effects because the 2 fans w...

The things that would compel me to upgrade to 7 are simple UI things like taskbar pinning and improved window control (the new docking feature is handy). But... I had a brief play with 7 earlier this week and for me neither these small improvements nor the added gloss are worth it. As with Vista it'...

Does anyone know what might cause ram *slots* to go bad? If you have a magnifying glass or lupe, check the contacts - could be damaged or dirty. Even if you can't check them, a piece of thin card folded over and dipped in IPA is good for cleaning them out. Only other thing I can think of is a power...

With such a plethora of symptoms I'd tend to suspect the RAM and try to eliminate it first. If you're not already on a single stick, do that, clear CMOS, reboot, disable "Quick POST" in BIOS, reboot and take it from there.
Ideally, run Memtest - http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Heres a thought... what if YOU are wrong. Ive heard the saying; 'Far better to be Christian and wrong than to be Aethist and right.' I'm going to show my age by recalling an episode of "Night Gallery." In it a hippie dies and ends up in a locked room with some old people. I'd be curious to see an overlay of the data against STD rates. I saw a news story last year that 26% of New Yorkers have herpes versus 19% nationally. I'm curious if it works something like this: Higher usage of porn = less real sex = fewer STD's or perhaps higher population concentration => highe...
