Would intense file-swapping, such as Bittorrent and page files, be noticably noisy on these drives? I'm currently seeking a new drive and this looks like an interesting candidate.

Cheers!

Looking to upgrade my current Seagate 7200.8 drive

This should be easy for you all. I need a bigger drive and, intending to stick to one HD only, I'd like to replace the current drive with a bigger-capacity (and preferably quieter) model. I've been using Seagate for as long as I can remember, but are the newer models quiet (and reliable) enough? I s...

Darn... I have a Sony Trinitron monitor too and I am pretty picky about image quality. I'm sure I will easily notice the difference as well. Do you know if the coolers on most 6800GS cards can be replaced with quieter models (if so, which cooler?)? My 9800Pro currently runs on the AC VGA Silencer an...

Seems that the 6800GS can be had for about the same price as the x850Pro. Are there any reviews or comparisons between the two, heat- and performance-wise? What are your opinions on each of these? Thanks!

My own AC Silencer + 9800 Pro are still going strong, nearly two years on constant use.

IIRC a 6600GT has about the same performance as a 9800Pro...

As for the 7800GS vs x850 pro, I've been able to locate the latter for significantly cheaper price on Ebay. The former still seems to carry a premium everywhere. I might be wrong though... (correct me?)

Cheers!

It does not look like a moherboard upgrade is a feasible idea for me unfortunately, so I will have to stick by AGP cards. Can someone tell me how much x850 cards normally cost, whether on Ebay (I don't mind used, as long as it is working) or new? Also, how much faster (and hotter) is the 7800GS? The...

How does that Asrock mobo fare with the competition? I had always thought that if I were to upgrade to a PCI-e mobo I would be going with one of those passively-cooled nForce4 boards.

I believe there are AGP flavours of the X850 & 7900, but I have no idea on how they perform and what they cost. I haven't got a specific budget at this stage, but let's put it around $250-300 (inc. any coolers I will need to get - unless I can re-use my old AC cooler and/or Zalman ZM80D-HP). I just ...

PIII 1GHz in fanless mode - safe?

I just got a used PIII 1GHz chip (SL52R) for a 'fun' upgrade with a PIII 800MHz system. Currently the system is running fanless (with only one Glacialtech 120mm fan in the PSU cooling everything including the nearby CPU heatsink). It's been running fine and stable. How much hotter would a PIII 1GHz ...

Though I have no direct comparison on heat generation between the X2 3800+ and Venice 3500+, the former should be the hotter chip. Based on that, the 3500+ will hence cope very well in a setup similar to mine.
