If you are actually talking about putting a secondary drive to sleep, you may want to look into using a 3rd party utility like hdparm, rather than trying to get things done through the OS alone. Windows, is pretty notorious for not being good at this. This is a secondary hard drive. Ill give hdparm...

Hello SPCR readers, I currently have Windows XP set to put the drive to standby after 3 minutes if nothing access the drive. Start>Control panel> power options > turn off HD > 3 min Now this runs great as it gives my drive some time to cool down. HOWEVER it spins down and spins back up after only 2 ...

correct me if im wrong but the S-Flex D seem to be the quietest fan, while providing some decent amount of air flow. Is the Zalman just as quiet?

hey guys. sorry for the Epic bump from 2007 to 2009 :(.

Anwyays, i have 3 Cat fans in my computer, all hooked up to a fan controller set to minimum. My question is what is wrong with these fans :oops: ? They dont seem bad to me. Are there quieter ones on the market?

May not be the fan. Most probably the noise you're hearing is some electrical noise. I recently bought a Pro82+ 385W in the hope to make one of my silent rigs quieter but it buzzes louder than all of my Seasonics ... even with the power switch on the PSU set to off (with the mains left on of course...

why did MikeC use an rpm monitor to find out what the fan speed was? why didnt he just plug in the rpm wire onto the motherboard ? :wink:
