Plus, this is our niche There it is, right there, you are defending your turf. SilenX fooled you guys and you are punishing them because there are easy alternatives. Other companies can act far less ethically but it is too inconvenient to find an alternative so that is okay. Got it, I won't poke at...

Not really, but you want to make SilenX out to be more evil because the slight was perpetrated on a web site you love. That is understandable, but that is the very definition of situational ethics.

If ATI and Nvidia published benchmarks under their own name that were not entirely objective, then no one should be surprised that they interpreted the results in a way that is favorable to their own products, even if such benchmarks were misleading. If ATI and Nvidia hired employees or another com...

Faking benchmarks is not as bad as having hidden multiple representatives for the sole purpose of marketing. The latter is much more personal. That is one skewed veiw of reality; big lie, little lie, still makes it a lie. If you can tolerate lies from ATI and nVidia it is pretty much hypocrisy to h...

While it might not happen around here much it is far from uncommon for this kind of thing on a variety of message boards and at any given time ATI, nVidia, Intel, AMD and many times Microsoft have been caught in this kind of thing. It's desperate and many times not necessary, but people do strange ...

I dunno', I have been using a lot of SilenX stuff the last couple years and have had no issues. I find their fans to be rated pretty close to reality, if anything the airflow is slightly less than what is stated but the noise level seems pretty close to me. I started using them before I knew of the ...

The hard drive, after doing a little research, turns out to be a Seagate Momentus with 8mb cache does it make the high-pitched keening squeal? i have an older 40GB/2MB cache version of the drive, which i found unacceptably noisy. if yours isn't squealing, it's a great news for me. i was considering...

Not to fan the flames but I'd call having the CPU do something that is supposed to be handled by the GPU a compability issue. It's like saying: "I can still play Unreal in software mode so I have no problem with my graphic card not supporting D3D or OpenGL" You probably need to take a closer look a...

My favourite thing about mac-heads is that they don't realise almost every style of PC apple releases has already been done in the IBM-PC market, usually years before. Examples please? Also as far as it not supporting Core Image, its apparently intentional. This is their bargan basement PC that was...

Not if you follow the directions on the can, I don't disagree about filters but there is nothing wrong with using canned air if you pair it with a little common sense.

Hmm, I use the all the time and they seem to move about (or barely just under) thier listed CFM, I would hardly call that "utter bull". They definitely work better in larger cases with better airflow, I feel I get around 28CFM in my Cooler Master Praetorian yet I tried one in my Shuttle SK41G and I'...

Thanks for the replies guys, I ended up disconnecting the fan on the top blow hole (which I am not a big believer in anyway) and literally dropped the remaining noise by half and having no impact on temps (the dust filter and mounting on this fan was so restrictive I didn't think it was doing much a...

Cooler Master Praetorian almost quiet but need advice?

Like the title says, I bought a Praetorian and I love the air flow, it's keeping my Prescott running extremely cool. With some minor mods I chopped the noise in half... -Silicone gaskets on rear exhaust and top blow hole -Replaced 2 front intakes with SilenX 14dba 80MM fans mounted on silicone gromm...

Budget Video Heat questions?

I have a Shuttle SK41G with Linux that is my main machine. It runs like a champ and is pretty quiet with a little tweaking, and of course a passively cooled video card. That was pretty much what I expected to hear Ralf, I guess I'm not overly concerned, my system is rock stable and if I pop the side off the HDDs are barely warm to the touch (compared to some systems I deal with at work from Dell, those drives feel like they are on fire even at idle). I figure even ...

Temp Monitoring Question

So what do you guys think about the accuracy of temp monitoring programs and their results. For example, I have an Intel PIV 2.4B on D845GEBV2L that I monitor with Intel ActiveMonitor, and 2x 40GB WD SE HDDs I monitor periodically with Dtemp. My temps idle are CPU 27-29, System 25-29, Motherboard 25...

"Naah, don't bother with expensive cans." I noticed the same accumualtion on mine, although it's pretty minor and doesn't seem to get very far in, seems to be clinging to those areas. Nothing wrong with Celeron's for lots of uses, my only gripe with AMD chips is that I have to cough up extra $$$$ for an nForce mobo to avoid VIA garbage, and either choice for AMD leaves me searching for very specific memory.

The last review I saw showed the Celeron 2.0ghz performs comparably to the PIV 1.7-1.8ghz in most apps, so you can extend that out (in a very non-scientific, back of the cocktail napkin way) my Celeron 2.2 runs about the equivalent of a PIV 1.9-2.0ghz. Now a few things to consider, the PIV is still ...

The 92mm exhaust fans on most recent Dimension PCs have been horribly loud, it's quite a topic of debate. And if you call for a replacement one of 3 things happens... 1.
