Re: s939 nForce4 board recomendations
They're not bios-controlled but you can try to software-control them But you have to use something else than Nexuses - my XP 120 nexus only changes its speed by ~ 5% when ordered by the bios Uhmm. Did you try controlling the fans by software? A 5% change tells me of a pretty inefficient BIOS featur...

Have you checked out HardOCP's review ? The board sure didn't impress them, although IMO some of their reviews are slightly controversial, to say the least.. I was also interested in this board myself, however due to better availability and value I've started glancing at the KN8 Ultra . It has the s...

This one might prove to be noisy in a high-power system with less-than-excellent airflow, since 44 Celsius really isn't that much and putting a lot of stress on a 350W unit isn't very hard. However, it's one of the cheapest PSUs (70€ in Finland) that can operate passively without any modifications. ...

Has the V-1 been tested in other than a normal tower system? Thermalright warns on their website of using it in a situation where the heatpipes are pointing down. I'm no heatpipe expert so I'll just say it'd be wonderful if it somehow worked anyway. Yet I doubt the V-1 could be used in this applicat...

I have a Dell Inspiron 600m ps brick (45 or 60 watt brick, IIRC) that makes a very similar noise--sort of a high pitched squeal/whine? Not sure what component internal does that, but it'd sure be nice to know, because it can be quite audible. Quite a few appliances can cause that noise actually. My...

Hey Rik, and welcome to the forum! I'm glad to see Shuttle taking interest in this community, it's definitely a good sign. I must ask you too: would you happen to know of any shipping dates for SD11G5? :) 1) How is Shuttle for reliability, esp. with hardware that's new to them? Having followed the S...

Heh, I hope they manage to dig up some fans for you nici :) vapb400: According to Shuttle's site , "the XPC SD11G5 has been tested compatible with the NVIDIA 7800GTX as well as other high-performance graphics cards." And here's the nicest VGA Silencer mod for an XPC that I've seen: link I'm not sure...

Many thanks for the awesome review MikeC! This SFF looks like a winner. Any info on availability (in Europe)? Is it possible to fit something like a VF700 on the GPU? Anyway, its always possible to cut a hole in the side  I really like this one :) I want more folding power.. quiet folding powe...

Here's another review of Rev. 2 if you were missing one.. The clicking noises which Revision 1 had are completely gone now, at any fan speed. Also the new fan seems to be even quieter than the fan of the first revision. Overall I must say that the fan is VERY quiet. Their standards probably aren't ...

Re: new record in power draw: Pentium EE + 7800 GTX SLI
I'd just like to point out that GF 6800 Ultra consumes more power than the new 110nm 7800 part. A system with 2 6800U's in SLI would be the most power hungry setup on desktop today.

The problem with switching the PSU fan is that it must be only 10mm thick (60x60x10mm) and that sort of fans are pretty rare. The PSU also runs pretty hot, which makes it difficult to keep the system stable with a heavily undervolted fan. In this thread on Sudhian forums some people had talks about ...

As noted in the review , when a decent heatsink is mounted (in this case w/o even being clamped onto the CPU) temps plummet right to the same levels as we've had with the other P-M boards. Here's a quote from page 5 of the review: Booting into Windows got me idle temps of 26°C, and CPUBurn load tem...

Check out this page on The Tech Zone. If their Computex report doesn't lie, there is indeed a video card expansion slot, and given the chipset this SFF is based on, I'd guess it's a PCI Express x16 slot. Let's hope the other slot is an ordinary PCI. I'll quote the other meaningful thing they state: ...

The optimal 3.5" HD for SFF?
Hi there, I'm building a Shuttle G5 based SFF system and need some help in choosing the hard drive. Sorry about the noobish question but I did a quick search and couldn't find this specific topic discussed before (much anyway). :) Here's what I've reasoned so far.. The characreristics of this sort o...
