Hi all, I have a few simple questions that I cannot get a confirmed answers: On the Athlon 1800+ CPU what is the settings and/or details for the CPU thermal diode? How do users know how to setup a monitor utility (like MBM5) to monitor the internal diode & compare to the thermistor in the CPU socket...

Hi all, And now my 2-bits. I have an Athlon 1800+ with a modded Thermaltake Volcano 6cu with an 80 mm case fan, all on an Elite ECS K7S5A MoBo. Motherboard Monitor 5 tells me my Case is @ 25C, the CPU is @ 40C and Chipset @ 18C. For the modded Thermaltake Volcano 6cu, I removed the very noisy ...

To Rusty075, Yes, we celebrate Christmas up here in the frozen wasteland  The Christmas tree doesn't fit into the igloo, but we decorate the snow-laden trees with ornaments & Christmas lights & put the presents under the tree. The stockings on the chimney is also a problem. No chimney! Snicker...

Fans that are noisy, whining or clicking
Hi all, May I say that we are having lots of reviews & comments on noisy, whining or clicking fans. I guess that as fans can't tell ya what's wrong, they gotta whine. Ha Ha. :D Anyway, down to the matter at hand. I am no expert in fan technology, but can only relate my experiences. I'll try to keep ...

Hi. I just finished installing my modded Thermaltake Volcano 6cu in my machine. WOW, the silence is deafening! What a huge difference from the noisy Thermaltake fan to the new 80 mm Panaflow! The temperature stats with MBM5 = Case @ 25C, CPU @ 40C & Chipset @ 18C. Slower 80 mm fan = same results as ...

Mods to a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu
Hi there, I just modded a Thermaltake Volcano 6Cu heatsink. I removed the very noisy 60 mm Thermaltake / Everflow fan and the fan mounting plate. I then found four small right-angle brackets and drilled the aluminum heatshink and used pop rivets to attach the brackets to the heatshink. I then attach...

Hello, Sorry for not responding to this thread B4 now. This problem could be the switch type. When ordering switches you need to be carefull in the type of switch you request. Some are "make B4 break" and others are "break B4 make". An easy understanding: "make B4 break" means the internal switch co...

Dear shunx, The voltages are within the tolerances as defined in the ATX/ATX12 Power Supply Design Guide. However, the +5 line is one of the crucial voltages and is a little low. The +5 supplies the power to all the electronic components on the MoBo, the HDD, the CD/DVD & floppy drives, etc. The +12...

MikeC, Gee, I thought I was helping and not hindering the issues. However, I do tend to go on & on. There is no question whether PSU manufacturers meet or exceed the Design Guide. All I really wanted to point out to prospective modders is the design criteria the PSU manufacturers need to abide by wh...

Hi all, I found on the 'net a document "ATX Power Supply Design Guide (Ver 1.1)". Copywrited by Intel Corporation @ 2000. Dear GamingGod, I wish to offer you some words of wisdom: be wary of the type of paint you buy! Some acrylic spray-on paints will melt the plastic parts of your drives, and enamel may work better. Covering white plastic with black can be difficult. You might find the black paint may wear off with us...

Hello Queue, Yes there are special tools to crimp the pins onto the wire and to extrct the pins from the connector body. All parts & tools are made by MOLEX. The extraction tool is basically a round tube on the outside with a plunger down the middle. The tube slides over the outside of the pin and r...

To crisspy: I don't want to bore you (or other readers) with techno-jargon on PSU designs. However, a PSU design in a nutshell: As I have noted in other forums, the PSU is a switching design. The PSU derives the hi-voltage directly from the 115VAC powerlines (no isolation). The AC voltage is rectifi...

Hi MikeC & others, When push comes to shove, a $10 to $15 fan controller sounds nice. I am not familiar with the Zalman Fanmate, but I did review the Computuning fan controller @ http://www.modthebox.com/review34_1.html and find it would do a reasonable job. So the Computuning control knob is ugly. ...
