Morrowind was the reason I bought my 4600 and it was well worth it, great game. I basically finished it, I became the Nevarine and killed dagoth-ur, but the game was not 'over' I was still running around. I think you are supposed to go back and kill the other god vivec to move things along. And the...

Eh. I bet with a good video card, you could game pretty well on anything above a 1 ghz. Typically I turn off a lot of the eyecandy to get smooth framerates, and I find my internet connection (low ping) and mouse make a much bigger difference than a state of the art hairdrier video card in my system...

Actually the main quest for Morrowind isn't all *that* long. If you follow the main plot intently and become the Nevarine as soon as possible, I'd estimate that it takes about as long as a "standard" RPG. So you actually finished the game? That's pretty cool. I think you're right that the game is v...

Re: Palomino vs Thoroughbred
Recently, I accidentally fried my athlon xp 1700+ (palomino). Needing to buy a new cpu (Arrrggghh... :x ) I started looking around for the cpu (AMD - palomino or Thoroughbred) with the lowest thermal demands, in order to cool it easier. If your CPU is under warranty and has no physical damage...

I won't even begin to point out the logical fallacies associated with upgrading your computer on the basis of a synthetic benchmark. I have a PII-400 and a geforce 2 mx. I don't even care what my 3dmark is. ...now if they could find a way to SUBTRACT points on the basis of how LOUD your box was, th...

Yeah the water in Morrowind is the only place where I remember seeing pixel shaders.TheMuffinMan wrote:Morrowind: The Elder Scrolls is the only game where I can tell that it's taking full advantage of DX8. It uses Pixel Shaders on the water and in some other environmental objects. It looks great BTW.

Anyone tried the new 3dmark yet? It's quite demanding, I only got about 1200 with a Duron and GF4Ti. Now I feel like upgrading.

I read that it was better to use something that dried slowly so that it could soak into the coil better, like varnish. There's a product for TVs called "corona dope." A question before I do something unwise: my PSU whines, I'm not sure if it's the coil or something else. As such, would it be safe i...

Real total silence can be like a tonic for the mind. It is my favorite music, my favorite poem. I suddenly feel that this pursuit of computer silence is somewhat philosophical. There's something almost Zen about it... It reminds me of the pursuit of the dissolution of external senses in introvertiv...

Which of V and IV are 1 platter only?MikeC wrote:The 60G V is a one-platter drive; the 60G-IV is 2 platters. Go for the 5. Should be quieter and cooler.

Ooh I know, they forgot to put a zero after the 7chiahaochang wrote:I found this article about Gainward's work on making a GeForce FX that produces only 7dB(!).
I imagine my room is considerably louder than 7dB even when all equipments are turned off and doors and windows closed.

Hmm I haven't used these bare wire fans yet. Is soldering necessary, assuming one doesn't have a fan bus that accepts such wires?SilentDave wrote:It comes with two wires, red and black with bare ends. There is a third spot for a wire on the fan though. I just solder directly to psu wires, for 5volt in this case.
