Good luck finding an Asus CT-479. Ebay.de has 2 (expensive) offers. You probably need AGP and DDR? I'd recommend a socket 939 solution.

Btw, I like 2,5" hdd since they have only 1 W idle power consumption and don't need air flow when suspended. About performance: Storagereview.com should have tests and digit-life.com as well. (3,5" and 2,5")

Sorryy, socket 478 is dead. According to processorfinder.Intel.com, there's is no CPU available with less than a TDP of 82 W and there are is no idle vcore management (C1E).

Get a mobile chip or a L2-stepping. Power consumption is quite down with these, it's quite useless wait for the future. Cipset choice is more important.

Well the point of an avator for me would be instantly recognizing the poster. With a predefined set it's impossible. I really like the cleanness of the board on one side but also would like to recognize some regulars faster on the other side.

Speedstep is not that important if C1E is implemented given that the system idles a lot. Some Celerons have C1E.

I can't help you more since I don't have an AMD system.

You could try to change the advanced settings. The voltage steps or the timing should be a first try.

Well. With the new L2-stepping and the G33 it's getting better for Intel. Have a look here . The G33 needs less power, and I've seen power figures which put it in the same region as X2 + 690G in a printed magazine. But I've also seen figures which see AMD still in the lead ;) So being conservative, ...

Frequency is nearly irrelevant, only the vcore counts here. And that's 1.1 V for the Athlon 64 and 1.15 V for the desktop Core 2 Duo. How much the CPUs draw in idle is also determined by the manufacturing process. As an example, look at the Core 2 Duo which evolved pretty well as you can see here.

Note the higher power consumption when the CPU is cooled passivly resulting in higher temperatures. The german printed magazine C't reports that a G33 equipped mainboard needs quite a bit less power than a 965G equipped board from the same manufacturer. Don't have the figures at hand. At idle, the G33 combination was still 20 W away from an Athlon X2 EE with AMD 690G, though.

What a sad trend about the power consumption on intel boards. Although the THG test looks promising when using DDR2. But nevertheless I'd recommend a AMD system for all but gamers/workstations.

Judging from the power consumption, you probably want a L2-step or a 6x20. See viewtopic.php?t=33425&

Well DVD burners ought to be cheap. So they are loud while playing DVD, burn DVDs and CDs badly and don't read scratched media well. The german printed magazine C't did a test in their recent issue. Only offline and german, though. What I can tell you: Always burn with 8x for +-R and with 4x for -+R...

The review at dirkvader really praises the PSU. Very slight electronic noise, and very efficient. It's advertised as > 85 %. Just have a look at this picture of the power draw of the test system. I heard boards with integrated graphics are not so good for overclocking. You might have to ask google since overclockers usually have non-integrated chipsets.
