I used the guide that is here: http://www.heatsink-guide.com/tempcontrol.htm while i was making it, it crossed my mind that maybe you could replace the thermistor with a normal resistor, so that the pot controlled the speed directly. Any EEs know if this is possible? I got the bit for the kit above ...

Yeah, thats sounds good too. But i thought the original idea was to have one thread so people could just click it and see loads of peoples quiet computers? But i think maybe Kurt's idea would look nice n clean like he said :) Yeah, having just thought about it, I think Kurts idea would be pretty goo...

What exactly are you looking for? A high power (several Ws) rheostat? I had problems finding any too :( There are prebuilt baybusses (PCMods?) available from www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk etc but they're pretty pricy. I have built a temp dependent fan control, which was user variable too. It may be...

Hiya, welcome to the forum!
Which HD(s) do you have? Could you try elastic mounting them (mechanically decoupling) in your case? There are guides in the mods & projects section... Might be wirth a try since it is very inexpensive solution to HD noise.

Lets say I post a neato-wiz-bang idea with pictures for my setup. I can describe what I did to accomplish this and whatever else might be appropriate. I then post a thread (in General?) about the project where people may followup with questions or comments. In the thread under Gallery, I include a ...

I got a cabinet from Home Depot (or was it Lowe's?) that I'm planning on making an enclosure from. I intend to maintain the integrity of my enlight cases, shoving the entire lot (2 machines) into the cabinet. Hopefully that'll aid in keeping the noise down. Queue Yeah it should do! How you gonna ke...

Are you sure its silent? I never noticed the noise my CRT made until i put my computer in the cupboard. That was with a Qtech PSU, 4x 7V papsts and 1 decoupled 40Gb Cuda IV being the only noise producers... Great if it is! Jus saying it might be noisier than you at first realise :? hmmm, that sucks ...

depending if you move it around you could also try suspending the drive by hanging it by elastic from the lower 3.5" HD rack, which would also put it in a good place to be cooled by your intake fan(s). PS ah just seen you mentioned this idea in your post - i dont think you need to do any modding? ju...

Yeah, i definetly think you need some case fans! I would normally say you'd want 2 in - 2 out panaflo L1As at around 5 or 7V, but i think they are difficult to find in Aus? Im sure quokked can sort you out with a good place to buy some other quiet fans :D One of the HSs (or two, obviously  ) J...

yeah, best ignore that particular unit - for hardcore overclockers only i think! The extra heat just means you need more CFM. Plus if the TEC is 225W you would need another PSU too! Plus it will be extremely pricy too i would imagine maybe ~£100. I think i remember your other post, and like i said t...

I have to agree here, when comparing papst to panaflo, i have to say that IMO panaflo are the better product. Although i dont have any gear suitable for measuring noise or airflow, this is just my subjective opinion. The clicking of the papsts really doesnt help their case  If you think they c...

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try rigging up a variable resistor so I can dial the speed I want. yeah, just be careful of the amount of current the variable resistor can handle. Got some nice sparks out of a variable resistor i tried using directly on a fan. (Was building a temp. controlled fan ...

Regarding fan holes, remember though that they always have a metal fan guard, or grill, which means that the holes are infact much smaller than the full 80 or 92mm. Ive heard it called 'Faraday Cage'... Hiya, welcome to the forum! :P Ok, well im not gonna suggest using a normal DVD player, because ill assume there must be some reason why your not doing this? Sound-proofing by CoolerMaster review
Theres a review of CoolerMasters effort in soundproofing here Looks bad from the start, and thats exactly what they concluded  Only providing you with 12" by 9.5" of material for a whole case is just ridiculous... Well, i think that the plates you have will still provide a great attenuation of the sound from the HDs. And if, like you say on your site, you cant hear your computers unless its very quiet and you listen very intently, then id say its fine! If it works for you then great! BTW, i see your using an ...

Im kinda confused as to what fan setup you have... Your last post is a bit confusing, you said you'd consider knocking off a case fan, then say later that you dont have any! More fans and less voltage is the way to go when you need a certain air flow, as I showed in detail here . Any way let us know...
