A lot of cases are quiet once you take out the front fans!

Silent is easy - silent with good cooling is the challenge.

Riffer, thanx for your advice, but it’s sure that I wouldn’t hear a moderatly silent PC when I’m in a full-action scene in a FPS game, but in silent scene, I will. I will use this PC not only as a gaming-box, but also as an HTPC, thus I will listen to DVD-Vs, CDs, MP3s and DVD-As, so silent is a MU...

I don't know what product you have in the UK, but over here there are two that work quite well, "un-du" and "goof off". They are marketed as adhesive removers. I don't know what is in un-do, but goof off has xylene. Avoid citrus-based adhesive removers, as they will leave a greasy mess behind. un-du...

Is it easy to find elastomer grommets? I'm in Canada which makes it even harder to get such items. I was about to order rubber grommets like these: http://store.yahoo.com/directron/grommet.html But if someone has an idea where to find the elastomer types I'd like to try them. Jeeze man - those are ...

I don't have the specs handy, but I remember the one I had as not being particularly quiet.

I have a PC Power & Cooling Silencer 400 modded with a Panaflo L1A, but I just noticed your "Budget" comment.

Of course it is rock solid - but at a price.

Silent Gaming PC? How many silent games are there out there? Before you adopt any radical solutions, my suggestion is to get a decent case and put in Panaflo L1A's, get a relatively quiet power supply like Enermax, and put quiet fans on your CPU and Video card. Once that is done, I doubt you will he...

I think the U stands for "ultra". It is the noisiest of the bunch.

Noise question - definitely not the Maxtor Atlas 10k III. It emits an intollerable high pitched whine. I actually put my Barracuda ATA IV in and removed the Atlas because I couldn't stand it anymore. Of course, now I have to live with IDE slowness and unreliability. Consider the Seagate Cheetah 15k....

I'm with Gandalf.

I have an unopened 120GXP and a 60GXP from RMA's. They are for absolute emergencies only. After two failures and two DOA's, IBM's won't ever again see the insides of my computer.
