Well the heatsink is obviously not designed for an especially easy conversion to 120mm. The way I see it a 120mm would be adding expense and significant hassle that should not be needed to get good quiet cooling for Socket A. You might get slightly better performance per db though, so if you want to...

Gitto is correct, though sometimes the interference can be picked up in the soundcard as well. I can tell a huge difference between my $20 labtecs using onboard sound and my Z-2200's using an Audigy 2 (the latter is much, much less prone to picking up unintended signals).

I've seen this from both cheaper video and sound cards before. It's not necessarily a problem with the part's design though as sometimes just switching out the offending part for another seemingly identical part can solve the problem. Rather a pain to track down though, good luck.

As was mentioned the Phantom 12V is very beefy for a 350 watter and I think you should be able to pull it off. Water cooling could make that system quiet and work quite well with a fanless power supply. I do agree that it would be very questionable setup with air cooling though. I'm actually hoping ...

If you really can't get it off you might try an oil filter wrench that uses a rubber strap to grip the filter. I really don't think you should need something that extreme unless you managed to crossthread it though.

Really don't have much to say about Belkin, it should be decent at least. The only widely distributed brand I would specifically avoid is Newpoint. I had one of those melt a hole in its housing and feel pretty lucky that it did not catch the house on fire while I wasn't around.

I would get a brand name UPS, you can find some decent deals ($100 or less) if you look around. I would look for one that lists power conditioning as one of it's features or benefits like the APC ES series, though any decent UPS should do more than a standard surge protector in this regard. But you ...

I believe the heat output would be similiar to a radeon 9800 pro, not hugely more or less at stock speeds, probably less than the 9800 XT if that is what you meant by ultra. And 6800's are definately 12 pipe cards, if you look around you can find info on enabling the extra 4 pipes but it's quite hit...

If you want near silent at idle the raptors are workable. If you want near silent at seek I don't think it's practical at all. For instance I can't hear my raptor at all right now as I'm typing until it does a seek. And my system is definately quiet even by spcr standards. Zalman Reserator, Antec Ph...

If you use some acoustipack you will eliminate the resonance hum some notice. It is key to buy a quality aluminum case though, Lian-Li or Cooler Master from my experience are the way to go. Raptors run cooler than some 7200 rpm drives, you are likely to notice a quiet but high pitched idle whine (still quieter than many non seagate/samsung 7200 rpm drives) if you have a quiet environment though. Acoustipack took care of this, but my system is placed near the floor, and the hdd's are in...

Raptors vary a bit, especially their idle noise. For instance I can't hear mine at idle over my case/cpu fans (all 80mm fans spinning below 1500 rpm). But I acoustipacked my case to get this result, before that I could faintly hear a high pitch whine when everything was at idle. Now I do clearly hea...

I've worked with all of those cases, the Antec 3700 and Chenbro Xpiders are both better unless you really want the TT styling.

And overclocking is not incompatible with a quiet pc, it just takes a little more work and careful component selection!

Be careful of OEM Fortrons. Fortron makes a LOT of psu's and while they will often share parts they will also often have a few differences beyond just the fan. There are some interesting units though at good prices, just don't be surprised if efficiency is a bit lower and heat is a bit higher.

You may want to plan undervolting that Sunon 40mm. I have one and it did seem very good airflow/cfm for the size, but I ended up dropping the voltage a little with a fanmate to get the noise down to where I couldn't hear it.
