I'm 99% sure this is the only place in AUS that you can get the case without a PSU. Its costs $143.00. I haven't bought it myself, but it may be of interest to others. Joe
Nice. Thanks!

Arctic Silver TIM on GPU core

Now that I’ve got my Radeon 9800Pro out of the case (upgraded to a x1950Pro), I’m thinking of reapplying the thermal grease on the AC VGA Silencer I’ve installed on the card. I’ve got some Arctic Silver paste; is it alright to use that on the 9800Pro core?

Cheers!

HIS card ordered. :) Hopefully I won't have any issue with it once it's installed. On a slightly different topic, I will have to use the DVI-to-VGA adapter to connect the card to my CRT monitor. There is probably not much space behind the case for that additional length of adapter. Is there any neat...

Re: Which one should I get? Which one is quieter?

Guys, can you direct me to which cooler base I should be going for? At the moment I am leaning towards the HIS simply for its exhaust system. I won't hesitate going for the Powercolor though if it runs significantly quieter. Cheers! PowerColor X1950 PRO 512MB AGP HIS Hightech ATI Radeon X1950 Pro Ic...

Mine definitely has no clicking sound (and I'm very picky with noise). It is however not the holy grail in silent fans as far as I care. With that in mind, I'd like to know how that original AC cooler compares to the IceQ cooler just so I know whether to expect a quieter or louder fan. Also has anyo...

I don't have to have no fan on my GPU (in fact I believe a little fan is better than none at all). Tell me, I currently have the VGA Silencer on my 9800Pro and, to me, it is just passable in terms of noise. How much louder (or quieter) will the HIS IceQ3 fans be?

HIS IceQ-series is definitely quieter than any Ati active reference solution. Although they might now quite be SPCR quiet in full speed. I had original VGA cooler in HIS IceQ 9800-pro and that was amazing. So I have had positive experiences from IceQ-cooling series myself. And HIS cards are usually...

Cool. Any more happy IceQ3 users here? The more the merrier (and more confidence-instilling, for sure). :) If not, what are the oft-recommended VGA coolers (and I'll get a card with bone-standard cooler)? Looking at those graphs (and comparing with the 9800 Pro ), operation at idle will be less powe...

That's a relief. Looks like I won't have to spend extra on a new fanless PSU (I planned to have a quiet fan blowing over it anyway) and struggle with the associated un-/installation procedures. Tell me, is the x850XT comparable in power consumption to the x1950Pro? Also, how quiet are the HIS IceQ c...

Buying x1650XT/x1950Pro AGP. Help make it SPCR-standard!

I'm going to get the Oblivion expansion - Shivering Isles soon. I think a video card upgrade, given the rig in my sig, is the most logical solution (tell me if you think otherwise). I will be playing in resolution 1280x960. 1) I'm torn between the x1650XT and x1950Pro. I'm sure I'll be happy enough ...

Is there no way you can obtain and use an adapter dongle to achieve this? It's a much more convenient alternative and with likely no noticable difference (as far as composite video quality goes).

Cheers!

Re: About Socket 370 (P3)

I never owned a P3 back in the day. I'm buying one used, and I'd like to know: Can I use a Socket A heatsink on Socket 370? Suppose my BIOS doesn't support adjusting CPU voltage. Is it still possible to adjust vCore? I have a soldering iron, a pencil, a steady hand, and an expendable CPU....

You know considering everything I think you'd be suprised how much you'd benefit for a mere upgrade on graphics. I wouldn't recommend upgrading anything else. I assume you don't play much games, because your graphics is already a bit outdated, so why do you need the extra cpu power for? I have x2 3800+ and I know it's plenty fast for normal usage and adequate for gaming as well. While not a hardcore gamer, I do play the occasional games, such as Oblivion...

Why would you upgrade AM2? S939 should still be pretty fast, you would get practically no improvement by swithing to AM2. And if it's performance what you want C2D is still better then the current AMD offerings. Rev.A ninja also is superior to Rev.B, when it comes to S775. I've been trying to figur...

I purchased my Ninja in late 2005, so I don't believe it is a rev. B (and the AM2 system was not around yet at that time). Is the retention system of AM2 boards the same as socket 940 ones (for which the Ninja is compatible with)?

Hi all,

I currently own a Ninja, mated to a s939 A64 chip. I'm thinking of upgrading to an AM2-based system later this year and wondering if I can bring the Ninja along to the new system, i.e. will it fit on an AM2 board?

Cheers!

1. Thanks. I'll keep the VF900 in mind (is it that worth it over the VF700?). It's a pity AC does not offer a VGA cooler for the x1K series, as the exhaust system is IMO brilliant. 2. x1650XT Upgrade checklists

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade the Radeon 9800Pro (which has served me well for nearly 3 years!). The x1650XT fits my budget. Here are a few questions that I hope you can help me with: 1) How typically loud is the stock fan? I'm most likely going to replace the stock fan with an "SPCR-grade" cooler,...
